Are You Discovering God’s Will?

Do you ever ask God if what you are doing with your life is what He wants for you to do? It’s a good question to ask yourself and it’s a good question to ask God.

You must understand your options starting with the priority of God’s general will. It is universal and foundational and demands action. "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it-he will be blessed in what he does." (James 1:22-25) Welcome the freedom of God’s specific will. There are times when you can be led one way and go the opposite but you will still be in God’s will.

Then understand what steps you should take. (1) Follow the Scriptures; (2) Settle your priorities; (3) Consider your intuitions--"However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me-the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace." (Acts 20:24) (4) Ask for and welcome godly counsel; (5) Make your choice and be faithful in the outcome

Here are a couple of very important facts. Don’t misinterpret the difficulties you may face and don’t underestimate God. He will continue to use you as long as you honor Him. "Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly." (Philippians 1:14) Find and follow God’s will for your life. Start at the foot of the Cross. Lose your life there and you will certainly find it.

Sometimes fear is the root of all anxieties and following God’s will for your life can be a little scary but there is an antidote—trust God’s love.
