How Can I Learn More About God (Part 1)
Think
for a moment about the characteristics of God
that impress you most from what He has revealed
about Himself in nature, Scripture and Jesus
Christ. Nature reveals God's Glory;
Scripture reveals His Sovereignty and love for
the world (John 3:16); Jesus Christ reveals
salvation and peace. God really has made
Himself known in some mighty ways.
Even though you may understand quite a bit about
God through nature, the Scriptures, and Jesus
Christ, there still may be some things about him
that you find to be confusing-like why He allows
evil, suffering, and death; what heaven will be
like; and how and when Christ will return to
earth. Some things about God remain a
mystery. As a matter of fact Deuteronomy
29:29 says: The secret things belong to
the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong
to us and to our children forever, that we may
follow all the words of this law. Don't expect
that by studying the Scriptures and reflecting
on creation you will learn every possible thing
about God. But you can be sure that
whatever God has revealed is exactly what you
need to know how to be saved and how to live a
life that's pleasing to Him.
There are plenty of benefits to be gained from
learning and following God's Word. Psalm 119
lists a few. Verse 11 says that if you know
God's Word it will help guard you from
sin. Verse 18 says that when you ask God
he will show you wonderful things in His
law. In verse 24, God's statutes are
said to be a person's counselors. They can help
you find solutions to your problems. Verses 50
and 52 say that you can receive comfort from
God's word when you suffer. Note verses 98
and 99. God's Word can make you wiser than
your enemies and can give you insight beyond
your years. Verse 104 says that you can
gain insight from the precepts in God's Word.
And verse 105 says that God's word lights your
way and keeps you from stumbling. Finally,
note what verse 165 says. It is God's Word that
gives you peace of mind. To learn more about God
and to experience these benefits in Your life,
you must spend time in His word.
Becoming familiar with God's Word brings another
important benefit to you. Your faith will
increase. Paul notes in Romans 10:17 that faith
comes from hearing the message, and the message
is heard through the word of Christ. The more
you study God's Word, the more you learn about
God. The more you learn about God, the more your
faith grows. The more your faith grows, the more
you see god revealed to you. Your eyes will be
opened to God and all blessings that He
offers. Now that is a benefit worth
having.
There is more you can learn about God but that's
for another day. See (Part2)
