How Can I Learn More About God (Part 2)
There
is a big mistake that people often make when
studying the Bible. Religious people from
Jesus' time and ever since have fallen into a
trap that Jesus Himself warns about in John
5:39-40 You diligently study the
Scriptures because you think that by them you
possess eternal life. These are the
Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse
to come to me to have life. The Jews knew the
Scriptures inside and out. They knew its
teachings. But their mastery of the Word didn't
lead them to the Master of the Word.
Realize that the Bible is a means to an
end. That end is to introduce you to its
author-Jesus Christ. Don't stop short of getting
to know the Lord better as you study the
Bible.
Furthermore,
the Bible says that simply knowing the
Scriptures is
insufficient for another reason. James
1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and
so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
God's message is meant to be obeyed, not just
heard. And obedience requires
action. It takes follow through. Don't
just listen to and learn God's word. Obey it. To
settle for anything less is to settle for
self-deception. Read Matthew 7:21-28.
You
can learn a lot about God. He has revealed
a lot about Himself. Isaiah 55:6 Seek the
LORD while he may be found; call on him while he
is near. God has made Himself known in such a
way that you can get to know him better. But you
must make seeking Him the top priority of your
life. Acts 17:27-28 God did this so that men
would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and
find him, though he is not far from each one of
us. `For in him we live and move and have our
being.' As some of your own poets have said, `We
are his offspring.' Take a moment right
now to reflect on the ways that you will
seek God today.
Have you knocked at the gate of heaven,
admitting your need for a Savior?
To God be the Glory, great things He has done.
Lovingly in Christ,
Carole
"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my
heart trusts in Him...
My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to
Him in song" (Psalm 28:7)
