God's Special Blessings In Old Age

Psalm 71:1-11

I don't know about you, but the older I become the more I appreciate this Psalm.  It seems to focus on God's special blessings for those of us who are getting older.  Psalm 71:9 "Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone."  We need to continue to thank God that as we grow older we need help to meet and solve some of the problems that we encounter later on in life; the problem of weakness, for example.  Outward we may be failing but with God we can be renewed day by day.  He will always provide the spiritual strength that we need.

Another problem I face as I get older is confusion. Psalm 71:1 "In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame [confusion]."  Sometimes it is hard to keep up with all of the many rapid changes in this world.  We may say, "I don't quite know what's going on."  But God replies, "Look, don't worry about it.  Trust in Me, and I'll never allow you to be confused."  Psalm 71:5  "For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth."

Another problem we experience is that of living in the past.  I look back to the past to see how God has blessed me.  I know that if He blessed me then, He certainly will continue to do so.  We do not know what the future holds but we can be sure of Who holds the future.

Psalm 71:8 "My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long." He takes care of our weakness and confusion, And He takes care of our fear of the future.  Let us substitute praise for complaining and therefore we can grow old graciously.

To God be the Glory, great things He has done
Lovingly in Christ,
Carole

"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him...

My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song" (Psalm 28:7)
