EUREKA! I FOUND YOU! Homeschoolers from across the country have expressed a common concern - the feeling of being all alone. The African-American homeschooling community is growing, but we're still amazingly unaware of each other. An organized method of networking is available through The Member Connect feature of the National African-American Homeschoolers Alliance. The NAAHA is more than just the new kid on the block. Their site is dedicated to uplifting our homeschooling families and putting us in touch with each other. Join Member Connect and find other African-American homeschoolers in your city. Be sure to mention Dell's Place! Thanks. ............ If you've ever said, "Now where was that in the Bible?" here's help.
Just type in the word or phrase and up pops the data. You can even search different Bible translations. Give it a try! ............

The Ebony Voice Newsletter October
2004 Dear Friends, Ebony
Homeschoolers would like to take this time to thank you for your
interest in homeschooling and us. Unfortunately,
it has become necessary to make some changes due to time restraints.
Effective November 2004, current issues of The Ebony Voice will
no longer be available online; it will become an in-house-only
publication. We will have a
new format omitting the more general sections such as “A Word from the
Founder”, “What’s on the Web”, and feature articles. The Ebony Voice will be that of news for Ebony Homeschoolers
members. Other features
will be added, but will only be relevant to our members. I regret the
change is necessary, however, you can still see what we are doing.
A general Ebony Homeschoolers calendar is posted on our web page
at Dell’s
Place. If
you would care to see some of our back issues, we would be more than
happy to send them to you via email. Thank you for
your interest in Ebony Homeschoolers. Homeschooling LadyDell

Tin Cottage Gallery
There is a new art gallery/gift shop called
Tin Cottage Gallery - Gifts & Accessories, on Highway 51, right next
to Down Home Cafe (by Hwy 51 Furniture) in the Atoka/Munford area.
We are putting together a co-operative
enterprise of artists/crafters and vendors of specialty items to create
what our visitors are calling the most unusual and incredible shop they've
seen to date.
We've only been officially open to customers
since Tuesday, April 20th. We opened our doors to vendor and artist
membership only 2 weeks ago. So far, we've filled about half our
spaces with local talent.
We will feature the artwork of award winning
artist Glory Hamilton(www.houseofjabez.com
) in the near future. Glory will be hosting a painting workshop at
Tin Cottage Gallery on May 8th. Interested parties should drop by
the shop to sign up and pay the fee for the workshop. It has been a
few years since Glory has consented to teach, so her return to teaching
workshops throughout the summer is applauded by her fans and students.
We are also blessed to be unveiling some other
artists who have been more or less hidden until now.
Sherry Coulter's hand painted plates are
lovely, and we anticipate painted screens in the near future from Sherry.
We will have talented photographer, Teri
Weaver, setting up her studio at Tin Cottage Gallery once a month.
She will be with us on May 15th for our Grand Opening. Teri plans to
award one lucky customer a free portrait on that day.
We will also have hand crafted candles,
potpourri, lotion, bath products, various specialty dolls,
monogramming and embroidery, all by Tipton County and Midsouth area
artisans. We are encouraging our members to donate samples of their
goods as door prizes for our May 15th Grand Opening, and already they are
making plans and sharing their ideas with us for this special day.
We have a wonderful little bookshop
called A CHILD'S HEART in our gallery, which is already well stocked with
many vintage, out of print and collectible children's books, as well as
new titles at less than half of retail cost. Proprietor Jennifer
Hanks plans to announce weekly "story times" very soon.
Jennifer plans to give away a first edition Nancy Drew mystery as a door
prize on May 15th.
The teens and kids of Tin Cottage families are
getting in on the act with their "Tin Cottage Adoption Agency for
Homeless Bears & Other Furry Friends", complete with adoption
certificates. Amanda Prince is a very strong advocate of stuffed
animal rescue. Joel Bray is developing a games and hobby corner
called "Turtle Crossing". He's sending out a challenge to
all chess players to come and take him on. Maria Smith will be teaching
art to younger children & K.J. Minchew is busily creating an item
called a "Cricket Serenity Hut". You just never can tell
what kids are going to come up with, especially homeschoolers!
In addition to Glory's workshops & the
photography dates, we'll also offer art classes for children, weekly story
time, and hopefully acting lessons in the near future.
We do still have a little space left for other
talent. We would love to have a scrapbooking specialist join us.
Perhaps also a jewelry maker, a stained glass artist, a quilter, and other
arts and crafts media as well. We would like to meet people are
willing to teach as well as create and sell, if possible.
We are also open to other artists work to
grace our walls. We are still in the process of preparing our walls
to display the art, but would love to start meeting with prospective
artists right away.
We wouldn't mind adding an antique lover to
our mix, and would especially like someone dealing in old jewelry and
accessories, especially art nouveau. That would be the perfect foil to our
pop art and trendy accessories we now carry.
Because Tin Cottage Gallery is an eclectic blend of vintage, new, and deja vu, there is something for everyone. We present an artsy mix of traditional and trendy that appeals to wide spectrum of tastes and ages.
We'd love for you to visit and learn more
about our various artists and vendors and the plans we have for the
future. Our hours are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday from
10-8, and Wednesday from 10-5.
