Many Christians never even consider the question of what bible to use. Many go
into a bookstore and just buy a bible not knowing that all english language bibles are not the same. You have a choice !!
We choose King James at First Baptist Church. It is good to have a standard and some uniformity in the
house of God. After all God is not the author of confusion. Imagine trying to stand in a congregation and
read in unison with fellow christians if everyone had a different version of God’s Word what confusion
there could be. There are new versions coming out all the time. The saddest thing is that there are people
around the world who need the gospel in their native tongue and those who have the finances to print
bibles desire to give us new english translations.... a language in which we’ve had God’s word for over 400
years.
There are more so-called bible versions in the english language than in any other language in the world. Any man can write a book and call it the word of God. But is it the Word of God ? The bible we have chosen to use is the bible of our fathers and of our grandfathers. It is the bible that Billy Sunday preached from as well as the bible that D.L. Moody preached from. The King James Version of the bible brought about the great Revival Crusades of these early pioneering evangelists. The King James bible led America into Prohibition. It was the bible read by American soldiers on the battlefields and in the trenches during the early wars of our nation. Why is this bible not good enough for many in our generation ?

The great Baptist preacher and historian Isaac Backus, a separatist
Baptist converted under Whitfield’s preaching in 1746 was quoted in 1754 as
saying “if we cannot know certainly that the bible is true without understanding
Hebrew, Greek, and Latin, then alas we are in a woeful case indeed.” This
statement indicates the Baptist attitude of simple uncritical belief in the early days
of this great nation.
Dr. John R. Rice said “Since 1611 the King James Version of the bible has been more
widely spread and more greatly used than all the other English translations of the
bible combined. The beauty, the stately dignity and reverence of the language is
far beyond that of any other translation.”
At First Baptist Church we do not merely accept that the bible "contains the Word of God". We believe that "it is the Word of God".
We do not merely accept that the King James Bible "is the best translation". We believe "it is the only translation" that should be used for ministry to english speaking people.
