Nativity

”Christmas – The Birth of Jesus”

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS……. Matthew 1:18-25

At that time, Caesar Augustus decreed that a census be taken, and every person in the entire Roman world had to go to his own town to register. Joseph, being of the line of David, was required to go to Bethlehem to register with Mary.

While in Bethlehem, Mary gave birth to Jesus. There was no room in the Inn because of the census. The Innkeeper offered to let them stay in the stable. Mary gave birth in a stable and she wrapped the baby in cloths and placed him in a manger.

Out in the fields, an angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds who were tending their flocks of sheep by night. The angel announced that the Savior had been born in the town of David. Suddenly a great host of heavenly beings appeared with the angels and began singing praises to God. The shepherds traveled to Bethlehem and see the Christ-child. There they found Mary, Joseph and the baby in the stable. After their visit, they spread the word about this amazing child and everything the angel had said about him. They went on their way still praising and glorifying God.

When Jesus was born, a bright star appeared in sky. Some Wise Men in faraway countries saw the star. They set out to find the new king and bring him gifts. The Wise Men followed the star towards Judea and when they got to Jerusalem they began to ask people: 'Where is the child who is born to be king of the Jews?' Herod, the king of Judea, heard this and it made him very angry to think that someone might be going to take his place as king. He sent for the Wise Men and told them to report back to him on where this child was born. The Wise Men followed the star towards Bethlehem. The star shined upon the place where Jesus was. The Wise Men entered the house and found Jesus with Mary. They bowed down and worshipped him. The Wise Men presented the gifts that they had brought - gold, frankincense and myrrh. God warned the Wise Men in a dream not to go back to Herod. So they returned home to their countries in the East another way.

An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and said “'Get up and take Jesus and Mary and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is searching for Jesus to kill him.” So Joseph got up, took Jesus and Mary during the night to Egypt and stayed there until the angel came to them again. When Herod realized that he had been tricked by the Wise Men, he was furious. He ordered all the boys aged two or younger in Bethlehem and surrounding area to be killed. This was to try and kill the new King

After Herod had died, Joseph had another dream in which an angel appeared to him and said, “Get up, take Jesus and Mary, and go back to Israel. Those who were trying kill Jesus are dead.” Joseph got up, took Jesus and Mary and they went back to Israel. When he heard that Herod's son was now king of Judea, he was afraid to go there. So instead they went to Galilee, and lived in their old town of Nazareth.

The Eve of Christmas”

On the eve of Christmas
And all through the town
No one was whispering
There was not a sound

No gossip, no murmuring
No complaining or groan
Just praise and thanksgiving
People took on a new tone

From the youngest to oldest
Each reached out to another
Showing love and admiration
Hugging Sister and Brother

United together in Christ
Seeking God in prayer
Holding hands together
Showing that they care

Seeking to make it different
Centered on Christ alone
This holiday to be better
The Love of God shown
