PRAYER IS POWERFUL

Little is much when God is in it - so the song goes. How very true it is. God can take faith and move a mountain. Faith as little as a mustard seed can grow.

Luke 13:19 – ‘It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it’.

If we would start with five minutes of total dedication, commitment and full focus on time in prayer, God can and will work with it. He will take the short time and bless it so we will desire to spend more and more time with Him.

Just as one that falls in love relishes his/her time with that other person and each moment they cling and look for more, so we shall begin to desire more and more time as we fall in love with Jesus more and desire to be with Him.

God’s Word is true and yet things in our lives don’t happen. We pray, we wait, we pray more, and we wait more, still nothing. Why is that? We begin to wonder if God is real. If He does care, why doesn’t He hear me or answer?

Let’s look at our lives. How do we deal with our needs and desires? Well, if we were honest, most of us would have to say, we don’t seek God earnestly. I mean, we pray and we believe but if God doesn’t give us what we want, when we want it, we pout.

Moses led God’s people out of bondage and they ended up in the wilderness. They didn’t see the promise of Canaan land. Why were they there so long and why didn’t they enter into the promise land? If you read the story, you will find out that all they did was moan and groan about everything and when God did provide, they found something new to complain about. Only when their lives were threatened did they repent and they died without seeing the promise land.

Number 32:11-13 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me: Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD. And the LORD'S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

The Lord’s anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the desert forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone. We could learn much from all this. My prayer is that we all do learn!
