you'll need for this tut:
PSP7:

My Selections: HERE
(download and save to your selections folder. If you don't have
a selections folder, you can create one; Open the pallette in
PSP)
Eye
Candy 3: HERE
Step
1: His Hat You can save here!
Open a new image with the dimensions of 300 x 400- 16 million
colors - transparent background
(ok,
I know this might be a little big, but I think it's easier
to work with, and you can always downsize your image when
you are done. Upsizing NEVER works.)
•
Add a layer and name it "Hat"
•
Go to Selections > Load From Disk > SM_hatLC.sel
• Flood fill with the red on the pallette I've provided
• Go Selections > Float
• Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout with the following settings

•
Add a new layer and name "Highlight"
• Foreground: White, Background: Null
• Click on your airbrush tool and use the following settings:
•
Highlight the hat in the same fashion I have below and then
apply a gaussian blur of 2:

•
Add a new layer - name "trim"
• Go to Selections > Load from Disk > SM_trimLC.sel
• Flood fill with white
• Open Eye Candy and apply FUR filter with the following settings:

•
Click on your retouch tool "The finger" and click
Smudge:

• With swift, short strokes smudge the fur out and away from
the edges. (See example below)
You may want to zoom in to do this, and make sure you apply
to all four sides of the trim.

• Add a New Layer > Name "stars"
*You
will need to move this layer around until you have it the
way you want it on your hat. Sorry about that. I had saved
it previous to recreating these images for this tutorial.
•
Go to Selections > Load from disk > SM_starsLC.sel
• Flood fill with the orange color on the pallette
•
When you have your trim the way you want it, go ahead and
merge visible all your layers and rename to "Hat".
STEP
2a: His Beard
• New Layer > Name "Face" > Send to Bottom
• Selections > Load From Disk > SM_faceLC.sel
• Flood fill with peach color from palette
• Add New Layer > make sure it's arranged Below the Hat
Layer
• Selections > Load From Disk > SM_beardLC.sel > Name "Beard"
• Flood Fill with White
• Do NOT deselect
• Change your foreground color to the brown
• Add a new layer > Name "Beard Shading"
• Select your airbrush tool (same settings
as before)
• Spray around the edges of the beard (see below)
• Apply Gaussian Blur of 5
• Save

Step 2b: Hightlights
•
New Layer > Name "Beard Highlights"
• Select your Freehand Tool (the pencil), width: 1, antialias:
checked
• Brown should be in the foreground, background null
• Draw some lines that are similar to what I have below:
*Note:
This
is after I've applied the gaussian blur. If you have some
lines that go out of the selection, simply invert it and hit
CTRL + X. Then go ahead and invert the selection again.
•Apply Gaussian Blur of 2.75
• Deselect
• Turn off all layers but the ones you've done for the beard
> Merge Visible > Name "Beard" > Turn all layers back on

Step 2c: His Lip
•Add New Layer > Name Lip
•
Selections > Load from Disk > SM_lipLC.sel
• Flood fill with peach color
Step
3: His Mustache You Can Save Here!
• Add New Layer > Name "Mustache"
• Go to Selections > Load from Disk > SM_mustacheLC.sel
• Flood Fill with White
• Do the same steps as you did with Step 2b; however, change
the Gaussian Blur to 2.75 after airbrushing. You should have
something similar to this:

•
Turn off all layers but what you have done for the mustache
• Merge Visible > Name "Mustache" >Turn on all Layers again
• Make sure your mustache layer is active
• Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow: V/H: 0, Opacity: 15,
Blur: 5, Color: Blk
• Activate your Face Layer and Duplicate it
• Drag that Layer ABOVE the mustache Layer
• Click your Eraser Tool (Settings up to you)
• Erase most of the copy of the face EXCEPT by the NOSE
• If you need to, lower the opacity of the face layer on the pallette
• Check the graphic below. I left some of the nose covering
the mustache:

Step
4: His Face You Can Save Here!
• Activate your Face Layer (should be the bottom one)
• Add a new layer > Name "Shading
• Select the Brown for your foreground
• Select your airbrush tool: Same settings just change size
to 8
• Follow the example below, using the colors in the second
row of the pallette...in that order (brown, orange, white)

•
Apply Gaussian Blur of 2.75
• Activate the copied layer of the face > Add New Layer
• Using the brown and white, airbursh highlights like below:
*Note: You may want to use the magic wand to select the copy of the face to keep from airbrushing off the face. If it doesn't blend well after airbrushing, use your smudge tool at settings that are good for you and blend. =)

•
Apply Gaussian Blur of 1.75
• Add a new layer > Select your Freehand Tool (Pencil)
• Set Foreground to brown, bkgd NULL: Same settings as before
• Draw
lines where I have them in the example below:

•
Change to your paintbrush, Size 1 or 2, Hardness: 8, Opacity:
75, Step: 25, Density: 100
• Change the brown to white and fill in the space between
the two lines you just drew
• Change the white to a color of your choice for the Iris
• See below as an example:
•
Change to the brown again and retrace the lids
• Now, switch to your airbrush again, same settings as
before
• spray right before the eye. (see below)

SAVE!
•
Click your retouch tool and select SOFTEN
• Use these settings = Size:8, Hardness:98, Opacity:85, Step:25,
Density:94, Shape: Round
• Run your tool over the airbrushed brown a couple of times...take care not to run over the eye

•
Add a new layer > Click on your Paintbrush tool
• Use these settings = Size:9, Hardness:50, Opacity:100, Step:25,
Density:100, Shape: Round
• Change your foreground color to
white
• Draw an eyebrow like below
• Selections > Select All > Selections > Float
• Apply a cutout with these settings:

•
I used the retouch tool and selected SOFTEN to soften the
edges some. You can do the same if you'd like.

THIS
IS THE LAST STEP! WOOHOO
Step

• Selections > Load From Disk > SM_decorationLC.sel

Color: #AF9141, Fill: Unchecked
• Repeat Cutout changing V/H to -3
• Effects > Noise > Add > 12%
