"Dad"
Precious are the memories I have saved in my heart
Of a Father who was wonderful to me right from the start.
You gave to us before you thought of yourself
Sometimes we had it rough, but you faced them
And didn't hide them on a shelf.
We didn't have fortune or fame
You taught us to be ourselves
And life wasn't to be wasted
For it wasn't a game.
You fought for justice and showed me integrity
was for the honest and the brave
That no man was indebted to be someone's slave.
You'll always be my "hero" and my best friend
A helping hand you were there to lend.
Daddy, I miss all the good times we use to have
I can remember getting hurt and you would put
on my bruises that black salve.
When I had an infected tooth and was in great pain
You called the pharmacy and asked them
to open the store to get me medicine
In the middle of the night
As years passed you were so sick and needed medicine
I answered the call and for you I did the same.
Regardless of your pain you put up a mighty fight.
In that tiny cottage you built by your hard working hands
We had love there and worshipped that piece of land.
I'll never forget when you left us
On that snowy February day
You'll never be forgotten for in my heart you will stay.
I hope you are strumming on your old banjo
I am blessed for you taught me right from wrong
And the narrow path was the right way for me to go.
One fine day in Heaven we will get to meet
I can still smell your fragrance for it was so sweet.
I love you "Daddy" and wanted to wish you a "Happy Fathers Day"
I wish you were here for you loved Springtime and the beauty of May.
