:: The Egg Drop Contest! ::

On Friday, March 18, 2005 Jacob entered a contest to see who could build a device to protect an egg from shattering into a million pieces when dropped from a 30 FT. cherry-picker. There were well over a hundred entries but with the help from dad and little brother Jamie they were able to put together a device similar to that of the Mars Rover. They even went to NASA's website to do a lot of the research. The egg was coated in grease (to prevent friction between the cardboard and the shell upon landing), placed into a cardboard egg container wrapped in heavy tape. Then the container was wrapped in a few layers of fiberglass which was suspended by rubber bands attached to about 30 balloons. There was also a "parachute" of sorts of 3 balloons which were attached by thick string to the balloon "cacoon." Viola'! Now if only it will protect the egg.......
