Caring and Praying For
Others |
|
Look not every man on his own things,
but every man also on the things of others.
Philippians 2: 4
|
The Apostle Paul encouraged the Philippians to avoid selfishness. The answer for
selfishness is servanthood which is being like Christ as verse 3 tells us.
Even though Jesus was God in the flesh, he did not claim his own rights and
laid aside his power and glory to become a man.
He became a servant and humbled himself to even die a criminal's death on the cross.
We see from Scripture that selfish ambitions will destroy church unity by pitting one
Christian against another. Being humble means having a true perspective on ourselves but
does not mean one puts them self down. We are sinners saved by the grace of God and because
we have been redeemed, we should have great worth in God's Kingdom. We are to place ourselves
in the hands of God to be used as he wants so that his Word might be spread and his love
shared with others.
Spiritual unity is needed in the Body of Christ for it to function as God desires. The Philippians
were encouraged to love one another and to work together with one heart and purpose.
We are also to follow this example and when we care and pray for the problems of others as if they
are our own, we are demonstrating the example of Christ by putting others first. This
will bring unity. The Spirit of God will work through Christians to attract and draw
others to Him.
May we be more concerned about the needs of others as we
intercede in prayer for them each day. Prayer can change situations and move
mountains in the lives of others if we fervently ask in faith believing.
He will hear us and answer in his way and time.
We can know the joy of serving our Lord each new day.
Blessings in Christ,
