Salt is a preservative and used for many things. It was valued in days of old and there was even a Covenant of Salt. The Covenant of Salt represented the everlasting friendship between God and His people.  Every oblation of the meat, (grain & oil), which was offered had to be with salt, as in the Covenant of Salt.   Salt was scarce and was precious to them as it was used in every sacrifice and to preserve meat. Salt become symbolic of incorruptibility of God's covenant and man's continual obligation to God.  The Covenant of Salt therefore referred to any inviolable covenant which had been solemnized, as in Numbers 18: 19, which was the twelve covenant.  We have a covenant of salt as to God's Word enduring forever and every promise to us shall be fulfilled.  He is also our everlasting friend, Lord and Saviour.  We are also referred to as "the salt of the earth" but must have "savor" to be of use in this world for the Lord.  Savor refers to godly wisdom of the Lord and prudence in His service, not as foolish but as wise through His Spirit.

By the river Ezekiel saw, on each side green trees would grow for meat, whose leaf would not fade nor would the fruit be consumed as it would bring forth new fruit each month, because the waters issued out of the sanctuary; and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine. These are seen as an evergreen type fruit tree, which will always remain green with new fruit produced each month, not annually or in a certain season as the trees we now see.

The leaves of the trees are said to be for medicine and evidently will have healing and preservation of life qualities within which will could cause a body to live without sickness or disease.  Could the mineral and vitamin content from the waters which shall overflow in the banks or marishes and turn into salt near where the trees shall grow, (Ezek. 47: 11) help nourish the trees and by God's Holy Spirit,  bring preservation qualities into the leaves as referred to in Scripture?  This is just a thought based on Scriptures and also from information in the Septuagint. This states when the waters overflow into these places, they shall turn into salt.  There will be areas not healed, which will be as resevoirs at this time.  Another thought is, "why would leaves of the trees be for healing at this time or for medicine and for what group of people?"  All in the New Jerusalem and 1,000 years will have health, but does this speak of preservation of life for those who did not have translated or glorified bodies as those in the resurrection and rapture?
These are some questions many ask and we may wonder about but do not have all the answers.  We only have views from reading the Scriptures and also thoughts of others shared.  We know God has made perfect provisions for all and it will be a glorious time and age.

Tree of Life In the Beginning

We know in the beginning, Adam and Eve had access to the tree of life until they sinned.  If they had been permitted to eat of the tree of life in the garden after they sinned, they could have lived forever and therefore angels were placed at the garden entrance to guard the entrance after they were driven
out by God.  As in the beginning when God gave every green herb for meat, (nourishment) to Adam and Eve and also the right to the tree of life, those in the New Jerusalem will be free to partake of the trees given by God and also there will be the trees of life in the new Earth as shown in Revelation.

Additional thoughts on the leaves of the trees for the healing of the Nations.

In Revelation 22, we also see the pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, flowing out of the throne of  God and of the Lamb.  This comes down from heaven after the 1,000 year reign.  We also see the tree of life on either side of the river, and the description tells us the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the Nations.  There will be natural people born during the Millennium who will be saved and later enter into the New Jerusalem to live forever.  There will be no sickness, so there will be no need of healing, as all will be made whole.  The leaves described here seem to show us the same picture as in the garden paradise of Eden.  The tree of life would cause one to live forever if they ate of it, and evidently would have caused Adam and Eve to live eternally, ( as previously stated), if they had not sinned. Those who go from the Millennium and enter into the New Jerusalem will have access to the tree of life with it's fruit and the leaves which are said to be for the healing of the nations.  In the 1,000 year reign  of peace on earth, life will be preserved.  There will be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days; for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.  {Isa. 65: 20.} For as the days of a tree, so are the days of God's people, and his elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. Isa. 65: 22.
