                   Instruction of God

More Precious Than Silver or Gold

INSTRUCTION OF GOD

What is more precious than silver?
What is more costly than gold?
The Word of God and our Lord
He is the greatest Treasure to behold.

His word is as tried in a furnace of earth
It is pure and without any dross,
If we abide within the laws of the Lord
We shall receive His reward and not suffer loss.

He is more beautiful than diamonds or any earthly jewels
His beauty and splendor is a wonder to behold,
He gives us peace and strength that our joy might be full,
We have safety in our Good Shepherd's Fold.

Instruction Of God More Precious Than Silver Or Gold

"Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather
than choice gold." Proverbs 8: 10

We are told in the Book of Proverbs to receive the instruction of the Lord, and not silver, and to receive His knowledge rather than choice gold. Our desire should be for godly wisdom instead of a love for the riches of this world which will one day all perish and be corrupted but God's wisdom and instruction are the laws to eternal life that will endure forever.

Instruction in God's word is described in Hebrew as "moo-sawr'" which means warning, correction, discipline, doctrine, check, rebuke, bond, or reproof. This word comes from another Hebrew word, "yaw-sar", which means to instruct with words, reform, correct, chastise, chasten, or teach. God's Word when it is received into our spirit is living and by the power of His Holy Spirit will reprove, correct, teach and instruct us that we might have our goals and vision set on heavenly things in God's Kingdom which shall always stand. His Words are more precious than all the silver or gold in the world and nothing we may ever desire could be compared with Him.

As we seek his instruction and godly wisdom, He will see that all of our needs are supplied according to his riches in glory. Silver and gold are not harmful, but a love for, or to be covetous for these things instead of the more valuable things of the Lord is sinful. We are to seek God's Kingdom first, and know that He will add all we need unto us at the right time and in right ways.

Without God's instruction, men walk blindly in this world and cannot discern their right hand from their left. The paths of righteousness are clearly set forth in God's Word and all along the way there are warning signs if one strays away from the path of safety. He will always be there to lead one back but they must heed His Word and receive His instruction.

Souls can hear the instruction and even listen carefully, but if they do not heed it to obey and receive it into their lives, it will not benefit them. Just as seed must be sown into fertile soil and cared for, we must have receptive hearts and minds to God's Word and break up fallow ground. When the ground of our hearts is prepared, God will place the good seed of His Word within that his children might be productive and fruitful through Him.

As we look to the Lord and seek Him daily, He will lead us in his ways and instruct us in righteousness.  "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction."  Proverbs 1: 7. We are told that a reverent fear is only the beginning of wisdom. We must not only fear God but must keep his commands and desire to know Him better as He instructs us.  His words are pure words, as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.  This represents completeness and shows us God's word is truly more precious than silver, without dross but with power to keep us from suffering loss.  He is our "All in All" who is worthy of all praise. May we always welcome the instruction of the Lord as He guides our paths each new day.
