TEACH US TO NUMBER OUR DAYS
Wisdom is something we all should desire as we face life each new day.
Godly wisdom is something we can seek and God will hear and grant our requests.
David ,the Psalmist, prayed that the Lord would teach his people to number their
days so they would know their days are of short duration but of utmost importance.
David said, "we spend our days as a tale that is told." He also stated that "the days of
our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore
years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
This earthly body goes back to dust at death but the spirit will be present with the Lord in
heaven if righteous, or be separate from God to suffer eternally if unsaved. Resurrection day
and a glorified body is a blessed hope for God's children, promised by the Lord.
Each day is another opportunity to worship God to seek his wisdom and will for our lives.
Our hearts must be turned to God and we must have a made
up mind to apply ourselves to seek Him. The first way we are to do this is by a true reverence
of God or an "awe" of his holiness and majesty. The fear of the Lord is only the
beginning of wisdom. When we see God in the light of his holiness, we will see ourselves
as this light reveals to us what we need in our lives.
We all need to have a conscience that is sensitive to the things of the Lord and hear his voice as he speaks to us in many different ways.
When we sin, we are made aware of it by the Holy Spirit if we are Christians.
He does not condemn us, but will convict us to bring us back to where we need to be.
Jesus did not come into this world for the purpose of condemning the world, but that the
world through Him might be saved. As he convicts souls there is a godly sorrow when one has
true repentance for their sins. Repentance means to turn and go in the other direction or away
from sin and back to God.
May we also be as the Psalmist and ask our Lord to teach us to count or number our
days that we too might apply our hearts to his wisdom. Our days
are few on this earth as life is like a vapor which passes quickly or as flowers that
fade and die after a season. The promise that we shall live forever and never die is to those
who apply their hearts to seek the will of God and his revelation of how to live.
Today is the day of salvation.
Tomorrow may never come.
Take time out to worship the Lord with a grateful heart.
Troubles will seem to vanish as he speaks peace and love.
Teach us O Lord, to number our days and always seek your heart for wisdom.
Blessings in Christ,
