"And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall stand upon it from Engedi even unto Eneglaim; and they shall be a place to spread forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the fish of the great sea, exceeding many. But the miry places thereof and the marishes thereof shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt.  And the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof
be consumed; it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary; and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.".....Ezekiel 47: 10-12.

There is an oasis known as 'En Gedi ' or 'Engedi' which is located about 35 miles South of Jerusalem in the vast wilderness on the western shore of the dead sea, the lowest point on earth.   This was part of the ancient territory of the Tribe of Judah.  Flowing fresh water has made agriculture and settlement there possible since ancient times, in spite of the extreme heat there all the year.

It is said to have been one of the world's famous garden spots or vineyards in times past.  Just a few miles away is the great rock fortress which Herod the Great built.  The Dead Sea Scrolls, found in 1947, were found just a few miles North of En Gedi.  History tells us of the many events which took place in this wilderness and about the caves or fortresses in the hills where armies or individuals could be safe.  We can only imagine that this could be the site or part of an 'oasis or valley of blessing' in the future when our Lord shall come to earth again to rule and reign for 1,000 years. We know there will be peace in the valley one day for all God's children and upon this earth.

En Gedi is also called the "valley of the kid", as the wild goats roam in this vicinity.  This place is also mentioned in the Song of Solomon, the author talks of his beloved who was like a cluster of camphire in the vineyard of Engedi. Right in the midst of this area is wildlife, and it has been said that leopards and other wild creatures also live here in addition to the wild goats in this area.

In this place there is a hot spring nearly 400 feet above the base of the cliffs, which pours forth water.  The land is rich in vegetation and at one times palm trees also grew here according to history.  It is said that the sparkling stream that is formed by the waterfall in this area is called David's stream, or 'Stream of Nahal,' to  honor the second King of ancient Israel.

En Gedi is the place where David hid when King Saul was in pursuit of him to take his life as recorded in 1 Samuel 23 and 24.  In this rugged area, David hid in a cave when he was running from Saul, and had occasion to take the life of the King, but did not do so.  He had a heart for God and loved the King in spite of Saul's determination to hunt him down and kill him.  He cut off the skirt of Saul's robe inside a cave, as a sign that he did not desire to kill him, as it had been reported by evil men.  Saul saw that David was more righteous than he, and pronounced a blessing over him.

In Bible Prophecy, this place is shown in end times as part of the vicinity where fishermen will stand upon the land from Engedi even unto Eneglam, and there shall be a place to spread forth nets to catch an exceeding amount of fish as of the great sea, as if fish had always been there.  This is an awesome picture shown to us as the waters of the Dead Sea will be healed.  When Ezekiel saw the River of the Sanctuary, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward, for the front of the temple faced toward the east, and the waters came down from the right side of the house at the south side of the altar.  The waters issued out as waters of a river which could not be passed over.  At the bank of the river Ezekiel saw many trees growing on each side.

Ezekiel was told the waters went out toward the East country and down into the desert, into the sea, and as they entered the sea, the waters were healed.  And He was told it would come to pass that everything that liveth or moved, whithersoever the rivers should come, should live except the miry places on each side would not be healed, but would be given to salt.  This has a lot of thoughts, as we know the Dead Sea, also called The Salt Sea, is rich with it's mineral content and is said to contain minerals the value of three times the wealth of the United States.  It will be healed to flow in that day with an outlet, and no longer be considered as a dead sea.

*As the Dead Sea is also called "The Salt Sea"....please view page two for Scriptures about salt, it's value, and a Covenant of Salt as well as addition thoughts on the leaves of the trees and the glory of the age to come.
