"I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel;
my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.
I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved."
Psalm 16: 7-8
Do you need spiritual help, a faithful friend, or just a listening
ear? Who can you receive advice from in these troubled days
that will never fail you? We can all be thankful that God
gives us counsel and instructs us in the Night seasons. Even in the midnight hour, we can call upon the Lord and he will
show us great and mighty things. We must keep the Lord
always before us in our minds and hearts to have the assurance of
never being moved. Do you have questions or desire to know
more about God? Do you seek reconciliation and unity in
the Body of Christ? God has the answers to your every question
and is never too busy to commune with you. You can always enter into his presence and find love, peace and
joy. He may not give you all the answers right now, but
He can give you true peace. We must remember that God has
questions for us too. Will we truthfully answer all of God's
questions when he speaks? He knows each answer already, but
speaking it from the heart to Him brings true freedom and his
many blessings.
Where can we stand and know we will be lead in right paths of
life? We can stand on God's Word and depend on the
counsel given through His tried and true words. He will lead us into all truths and give us hidden manna and unseen
treasures from his abundant resources. His words reveal true
signs and symbols confirmed, as seen throughout the 66 Books of
the Bible. These point to Him and his miracle working power to
save, deliver, and heal. He will justify and sanctify, and
lift up your head in the midst of every trial. God will point
to the good within your heart because He is the great "I
AM" who dwells within by his Holy Spirit.
What are the words of our Lord compared to? His words
are compared to seed, fire, a hammer, a lamp, fire, and a
sword. They are described as restraining, pure, perfect, sure,
truth, effectual, enduring, sanctifying, harmonious, inspired,
living and active. His words truly are wonderful words
of life! What more could we ask for that will benefit us not
only now, but eternally?
What does the seed of God's Word accomplish when sown as God
intends? His seed sown on fertile ground of hearts will reap a
harvest of love and produce fruit fit for the Master's
use. His fire burns out the impurities and gives a holy zeal
for His Spirit. His lamp also illuminates a life with
understanding and the warmth of God's love. His hammer breaks in pieces all the power of the enemy's
foundations. It places hearts on the molding board of his love
and shapes them into his image His Son. The sword of His
Spirit pierces and divides asunder the soulish, carnal nature
from the new spiritual nature placed within us. His Word
is compared to all these and much more. Isn't His Word wonderful to us?
What are some of the titles God's Word is referred to?
God's Word is called the Book of the Law, Law of the Lord, the Holy
Writ or Scriptures, Word of God, Word of Life, the
Bible, Testament, Covenant, Will, and "The Book." It
is bread for the hungry and living waters for the
thirsty. It is available for "whosoever will
partake" and answer God's call to come and dine at the table He
has prepared.
What can we say to others about God's Word? We can testify to
others what God says about his Word, what He has done for us, and
what he will do for them. We can tell others the power of
God's Word and what it will do for them as it did for those in days
of old. His Word heals, illuminates, makes free, sets
apart, bears witness, produces faith, makes wise, exhorts, makes
glad the heart, created the world, regenerates, and will destroy the
world's elements as we know them when all things will be made
new. His Word 'builds up what needs building up' and 'destroys
what needs tearing down'. It is as a two-edged
sword with a dual purpose.
Does God still speak to us today and what should our attitude be
towards his words? Yes, it is awesome to know God spoke the
world into existence and also speaks peace into lives and hearts. He speaks words of comfort and exhortation as
he is our Counsel and Guide. He still creates new life
and gives love. Our attitude toward God's Word should be
reverence and awe. We should receive it, respect it,
teach it, obey it, cherish it, trust it, love it, live it, and
glorify Him as He is the "Living Word".
Can we be a witness who will agree with the Psalmist David and other
Saints who were given God's counsel?
Yes, because His word never returns void. It is spirit and
life. We can say as the Psalmist David, "I will
bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel." There is no
other Counselor or Advisor like you O Lord whose words are as
silver, tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. "Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved."
God will receive and "amen" these words as they are His
Words of truth. Praise Him today for giving us victory.
Amen.
