If I'm Gonna

If I’m Gonna ...

If I’m gonna have a God,
I want the biggest and the best.
If I’m gonna risk believing,
I want better than the rest.

If I’m gonna study Heaven,
If I’m gonna walk the way,
I don’t want a God that ever sleeps;
But, walks with me night and day!

If I’m gonna have a Savior,
I’ll take One that can’t be beat;
Not by Satan, nor by wind and waves
~ Even death will give release.

If I’m gonna love a Savior,
I want One who loves me true
And would never ever leave me,
Like some folks on earth would do.

If I’m gonna have a Spirit,
Let it be for good alone.
Let His holiness inspire me
And His gentleness be known.

Let Him woo me to be holy
'Til I’ve born like Him above
The love of God to those around me
~ An ocean full of love!

Now, there might not be a Heaven
(Though, I feel it in my bones!).
There might not be a God above,
Who loves for love alone.

But, if there is, dear friend of mine,
I will not be ashamed.
Meanwhile, I’ll be proud to have
Christian as my name!
