        Bill Coley dies at age of 81  (Webmaster's grandfather)

William Greenberry Jordon Coley, familiarly known as Bill Coley, was found dead in his bed at his home in Newtown, at an early hour, last Monday morning.  He had suffered an attack of flu and it is supposed he developed pneumonia that ended his life unexpectedly.  He was 81 years of age, and it survived by one daughter, Beadie Coley, five grandchildren and one brother Wiseman Coley of Lafayette.  Burial was made about 2:00 p. m. Tuesday afternoon in the town cemetery following a talk by Poss McClard.  The deceased was a very poor man and had known many of life's hardships.  He was the son of Julius and Margaret Jane Perrigo Coley and was born in Lafayette.

                   Bootie Coley Passes Away in Oklahoma

Graveside Funeral services for Mr. Bootie Coley, 82, of Broken Arrow will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, March 18, 1991, in the Park Grove Cemetery with rev. Roy Enterline serving as the officiant.  Services are under the direction of Kennard Funeral Services of Broken Arrow.

     Bootie Coley was born on April 4, 1908 in Lafayette, Tennessee, to the late Harvey Coley and Arzilla Freeman Coley.  He lived in Lafayette and owned a farm.  He was married on February 17, 1929 in Lafayette to Lena Roma Glover.  The couple lived in Lafayette for many years moving to Indianapolis, Indiana, for 12 years where Mr. Coley worked for Best Foods Co.  They returned to Lafayette in the early 60's and Bootie worked for Imperial Shirt Co. as a security guard for 20 years before his retirement.  The Coley's moved to Broken Arrow in 1980 to be nearer their daughter.  Bootie was a member of the Broken Arrow Chow and Chatter Club, and a lifelong member of the Missionary Baptist Church.  He lived his religion and will be lovingly remembered by all those who knew him.

     He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lena of the home; one daughter, Jacquelyn and husband, Bill Gregory of Broken Arrow; one granddaughter, Tonnya Doubledee of Broken Arrow; three great grandchildren, Jason Maxwell, Steven Maxwell, and Rachel Maxwell all of Broken Arrow.

                   Claude H. Coley

Claude H. "Curley" Coley, 82, of Toledo, Ohio (formerly of Macon County), passed away Tuesday in  Heartland Holly Glen.  He was a salesman for over 30 years with Bob Schmidt Chevrolet, prior to that he owned and operated Curley's Shell Station at Monroe and Goddard.  He was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Greater Toledo for 42 years, serving as Deacon Emeritus.  He was a member of the Board of Ushers, Board of Deacons, Companionship Sunday School Class and Monday Morning Volunteers at church, he also belonged to Sandford Collins Masonic Lodge and Valley of Toledo Scottish Rite, Zenobia Shrine, and Toledo Chapter OES #341.  Mr. Coley was an avid Car buff and knife collector and very much enjoyed growing Dahlias.

     Survived by his wife of 62 years, Minnie; son Dr. Joe (Sarah) Coley; grandchildren, Dr. John, James and Michael Coley  and brother, Clyde Coley, Lafayette, TN.

 Services Held For Fred Coley

   Funeral services for Fred Coley, age 81, of the Coleytown Community were conducted Friday, May 31, 1991,  1 pm at the  Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette by Elder Huey Brooks and Elder Melvin Stinson.  His grandsons served as pallbearers.  Interment was in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park.

      Mr. Coley passed away Wednesday, May 29, 1991 at the St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville after a brief illness.

      A native of Macon County, the son of the late Henry and Matilda Hargis Coley.  He was married to the former Minnie West December 18, 1926, who  survives.  He was a retired farmer and a member of the Days Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church.  

  Survivors besides his wife include one daughter, Mrs. Jessie (Sally) Dickens; one son, Jerry Coley; sisters, Mrs. Georgie Mai Brawner, Mrs. Lula Dixon, all of Lafayette; six grandchildren, nine great grand children; one great great grandchild. Bootie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

 Hildreth Coley

   Hildreth Coley, 14 year old son of Mrs. Sam Sewell, died unexpectedly at the home here about four o'clock Sunday afternoon.  He had had tuberculosis for a number of years and a month ago contracted whooping cough.  He also had a weak heart and is thought to have died from the latter ailment when he was seized with a coughing spell.  He was the son of Wesley Coley who died ten years ago.  He is suvived by his stepfather and his mother, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Sewell, a  half brother, John Henry Sewell; a half-sister, Sammie Faye Sewell; and other more distant relatives.

      Burial was made in the Haley Cemetery Monday afternoon, following funeral services conducted by Elder T. H. Kennedy.  Hildreth was a good boy and his early afflictions and untimely death brought many expressions of sorrow and regret.

Birthday Dinner - Mrs. J. W. Coley

   On last Sunday, Nov. 22, 1936, the children and relatives of Mrs. J. W. Coley, met at her home and gave her a real birthday dinner.  It was one of the finest and most enjoyed dinners that she has ever been given.  All kinds of good things were there to eat that could be served and was very much enjoyed by her and husband J. W. Coley.  Two birthday cakes were presented with 76 candles on each, one by Mrs. C. C. Alexander of Gallatin, TN and other by Mrs. W. H. Parker of Owensboro, KY.

 

  All children were present as follows:  H. M., W. A., H. E., J. W., V. H., C. E., and Miss Ora Coley near her home, W. D. Coley of Haysville, C. C. Coley of Nashville, and Mrs. Nora Parker of Owensboro, KY.  Eleven grand children were there and her only living brother, Jeff Krantz of Liberty community, and sister, Mrs. Harriett Smith of Gallatin, TN., also H. E. Alexander and family of Hartsville, and Mrs. C. C. Alexander of Gallatin.

  

Mrs. Coley was born Nov. 10, 1860, it being her 76th birthday.  She has

been married to present husband, J. W. Coley 56 years.  She being the mother of 12 children, of which all are living except two, Claude died an infant, Lester was killed in France during World War I.  This day was a grand one for Mrs. Coley and also her husband, who is 82 years past.  It was a demonstration of the love and respect their children have for their parents.

   We sincerely hope she may be permitted to enjoy  many more birthdays as on this occasion.

Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary

 

Mr and Mrs LeRoy Coley, Rt 5, Lafayette, celebrated their Golden Wedding AnniversaryMay 7, 1961.  Mr Coley was married to Mrs Coley, the former Ottie Day on Sunday, May 7, 1911 by Dolphus McDonald, Justice of the Peace at the McDonald home near Union Camp.  They have one son Gerald Day Coley, who with his wife, Mrs. Gladys Tallie Collie, resides with them.

            COLEY CHOSEN OUTSTANDING DAIRY SCIENCE STUDENT


    Marty Coley, a graduate of Western Kentucky University, was chosen across the nation as the outstanding Dairy Science Student.  The award was presented at the 41st Dairy Shrine Honors Banquet on February 13, 1991 in Tulare, California.

     Marty was accompanied by his wife, Connie, his college professor, Dr. Jodie Pennington, and six members of the WKU Dairy Club.  The group flew into San Francisco on February 9th.  They saw much of the city, walking through Fisherman's Wharf along the San Francisco Bay, the streets of Chinatown, the Alcatraz Island and Prison along with riding the San Francisco trolly.  The dairy farms toured were Duarte Holsteins, Arlinda Holsteins, and Cal-Christ Holsteins all of Turlock, Ca.  Ahlem Jersey Garms, Wickstorm Jersey Farms and the Holmar Cheese Company all of Holmar, Ca.  One of the most interesting dairy farms toured was J & B Goat Dairy in Lemoore, Ca. where they milked over 800 goats.

     One afternoon of their trip was visiting the Sequoia National Forest.  They traveled through the Napa Valley seeing the wine country.  They crossed over the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay Bridge.  The group attended the Tulare Farm Equipment Show held in conjunction with the wine and cheese party and Dairy Shrine Banquet that evening.  There was 180 lbs of various cheeses to sample along with various alcoholic and non-alcoholic wines.  All of these products were made from the San Joaquin and Napa Valley.  The final day of their trip ended in Los Angeles where they walked along Venice Beach before flying back to Nashville on February 14th.

          Wiseman Coley Dies From Dropsy 

Wiseman Coley, aged about 75 years, died about 1:00 p. m. Saturday afternoon at the County Poor Farm, where he had been an inmate for some time.  His death was attributed to Dropsy
