Compiled by Gladys C. House and Peggy Jo Hurst
1. Joseph Peregoy was born about 1665; probably in France. He died before 10 May --- August 1720, because his widow, Sarah was administratix of his estate in 1688, when named as "Joseph Perrgo" in a will of Matthew Hudson, associating him with "Joansis Range", a part of a larger tract called "Burman's Forest." This land lay on the Patapsco Neck Peininsula, also known as "North Point." He was married by 1688-90 to Sarah Munford, daughter of Edward Nd Ann Munford, born 1672. Joseph may have had a brother, Henry, according to some searchers, but this has not been proven. Also, Joseph may have been a son of one William Perrygoe, who was among the "head rights," brought to Westmoreland Co., Va., by Nicholas Martiniau (Marteau), in 1654. this too has not been proven, but the dates are logical, and the name is uncommon, and there was a sizeable migration of settlers; bearing many of the familiar old Maryland names, from the Northern Neck of Virginia to the pensin-sula and waterways fringing the Chesapeake Bay. For the present, we have to start the numbering of generations with Joseph who is documented as being in Maryland in 1688. Sarah Peregoy died after 9 May 1721. Joseph and Sarah (Munford) Peregoy were the parents of 4 children. Names: Edward, Joseph, Henry and Frances.
