Married 3rd or 5th of Jan 1792, Henry Co., Va. to Mary "Polly"

Parsley. Moved to Barren Co. Ky. before 1820, on Mill Creek, now

Monroe Co., KY. Their children: John, William, Elizabeth, and

Robert 111, 3 daughters, names unknown; Elijah G., & Mary.

5. John Pedigo, born about 1793 in Henry Co., Va. Name

sometimes appeared as Perrigo. He was the oldest son of

Robert Pedigo/Perrigo, Jr.& Mary "Polly" Parsley. He moved

with his parents to Barren Co., KY where he married (1st) 11

August 1817, Mary "Polly" Barnett, the daughter of Absalom

Barnett.

Shortly after their marriage John & Polly moved to Monroe

Co., KY., with his father Robert Pedigo, Jr. Polly died between

1838 and 1840. On Jan 15, 1841 John married (2nd) Catherine

"Caty"__?___ Samples; born 1803 Her maiden name is unknown,

She had been married before and had a daughter, Elizabeth

Samples, living with them. Possibly had a son also, by this

previous marriage; and he was married, his name was Robert

Samples. Catherine was previously married to a Robert

Samples. John & Polly had 6 children: Names: Elizabeth, Joseph F.,

Absalom P. (Price), Mary J, , Henry, & T. David Harrison. John &

Catherine (Caty) had 2 children Names: Margaret J. (Jane) &

James K. Perrigo.

Rufus was a farmer by trade. He was a member of the

Friendship Missionary Baptist church. He was a native

of Monroe Co., Ky. Funeral services were held 1 Dec

1980, at 1:00 PM at Alexander Funeral Home, Lafayette,

TN., by Elder Huey Brooks. Buried Macon Co. Mem. Gds.

The following article appeared in the Yesteryear News of the

Macon County Times on June 7, 1990. The same article

appeared the first time in same newspaper on 22 Sept 1938.

" Rufus Perrigo, who sustained a broken leg on the night of

Aug 4th, when he was struck by a car while he was sitting on

the curb about the courthouse, was able to be in town

Wednesday for the first time since the accident." His children:

(The following article appeared in the Macon County Times 5/31/45)

Pfc. Bethel C. Woods, 22 year old son of Mr. And Mrs. Coleman Woods of near Lafayette, and the husband of Lorene Perrrigo Woods, was released from a German prison camp some time ago and has returned to the United States. Details of his release were not learned. Reported missing in action, his parents and wife waited anxiously for weeks until they were notified that he was a German prisoner of war. There had also been some worry over the fact that the last communication from him previous to the above information of his release, was written on January 23. Woods entered the Army in December, 1942, training at Camp Bowie, Camp Hood and Camp Swift, all in Texas. He went overseas about 15 months ago. He was made a prisoner on December 17.

Co., TN; d 7 Apr 1947 in Macon Co., TN; md Cora Lee Lawson,

daughter of Michael Henderson & Mary "Polly" McClanahan

Stafford Lawson. Their children: Bertha Louise, Beadie Anne and

Lillie Mae.

8. Bertha Louise Coley, b 19 Oct 1901; d 11 Feb 1939 from

pneumonia. She was also pregnant at the time of her death.

She md 3 Apr 1929 Will Britt. She is buried in the Bradley

Ceme in Lafayette, Macon Co., TN.

8. Beadie Anne Coley, b 20 Mar 1909, in Macon Co., TN; d 16 Nov

1968 in Simpson Co., KY; md 3 times: James McClanahan, Henry

Crook and William Edward Cook. She had five children: Willard

Coley McClanahan, Gladys Mae Crook, Lorene Cora Cook, Lamon

Elizabeth Cook and Edward Edwin Cook.

9. Willard Coley McClanahan; (Name changed to Willard D.

Coley-due to Willard not being able to spell McClanahan,

so he changed his name to Willard D. Coley.) He was born

18 June 1929 in Macon Co., TN., md Nellie Gray Gross,

b 7 Mar 1926; daughter of James Robert Haley and Frances

Sarah Jane Sexton Gross; died 12 May 1979 in Simpson

KY; buried Greenlawn Ceme in Franklin, Simpson Co., KY.

They had three children: Wanda Darlene, Nina Faye, and

Anita Kaye Coley.

9. Edward Edwin Cook, (adopted name Jerry Lee Martin) b 30 Apr

1941 in Lafayette, Macon Co., TN., md Patsy Brown. They have

two daughters: Lagenia and Nicole Martin.

Note: Lorene Cora, Lamon Elizabeth and Edward Edwin Cook were the children of Beadie Anne Coley, were removed from her care and were put in the Nashville, TN Childrens Home and adopted out. Their adopted legal names are put in parenthesis.) On May 13, 1941 the Macon County Welfare Dept through the Juvenile Court, removed four of Beadie Anne Coley Cook's children from her care, stating that she was unable to care for them properly. This was partially due to the hard times of that era and Beadie Anne being uneducated. They placed the three youngest children in the TN Childrens Home in Nashville, and placed Gladys Crook in a foster home in McKenzie, TN. Lorene and Lamon was adopted into the same family a year apart, their names being changed to Peggy Jo Wilson and Judy Marie Wilson. Edwin was adopted to a couple, both schoolteachers from Texas, later moving to New Mexico. His name was changed to Jerry Lee Martin.

It is firmly believed by Beadie's children that this event happened during the "Black Market of Babies" days, that this was the reason behind their family being broken up. Gladys, after searching for her lost family for 31 years, finally succeeded in locating them in 1983, after being separated for 42 years. The TN law concerning adopted children was changed for 30 days only in mid-May through mid-June of 1983, (matter of record) and the family was reunited once again. See "Reunion Page"

Beadie was reunited with her oldest daughter Gladys in 1954 but died in 1968 without ever getting to see or hear or even know what happened to her other three children again in this life.

had one daughter Martha. After Maggie's death, he md (2) Lawsie

Cartwright in Macon Co., TN; they had one daughter Minnie Coley.

8. Martha Coley, b 26 Jan 1891 in Macon Co., TN; d ?; md Will Britt

on 17 May 1911. They had three children: Douglas, L C, Jr., and Edith

Britt.

6 May 1950 in Macon Co., TN. He md 11 Nov 1901Flora Garrette and

6. James K. Perrigo, b 23 Feb 1844 in Macon Co., TN., the youngest

son of John & Catherine "Caty" Samples Pedigo, died 6 May 1950 in

Macon Co., TN; md Sarah J. Cosby, daughter of Elizabeth Perrigo &

William H. Cosby. Elizabeth Perrigo is the daughter of John & Polly

Barnett Pedigo. Sarah was b 4 Dec 1839; d 12 July 1927. They had

one daughter-Nancy.

7. Nancy A. Perrigo, b ca 1872; md William L. Dixon b ca 1872.

They had one son in the 1900 Macon Co. Census: Franklin P.
