    A Tale to Tell

          Have I

Once there was a family as happy as could be;

A mom, grandpa, a brother and three sisters filled with glee.

They didn't know they were poor as little Joe's turkey was,

they had each other, twasn't any such thing as the blahs'

They loved life, enjoying it to the fullest.

Playin', singin' telling tales, oh, it was just the goodest!

Little did they know of the dark trouble ahead.

God, in His love, didn't want them to fear and dread.

Then one day end of April along came baby brother Ed,

and a few days later - wham! apart the family was shred.

All were left to grieve and question, to cry and to mourn.

So many questions of why apart they were torn.

Three youngest to the orphanage, one to a foster home.

Just one left with mom, when all the rest had gone.

For forty-two years they were all left to wonder;

why their happy family had been torn asunder.

 Sister Gladys searched and searched for their lost kin,

determined this battle of life they would win.

Two younger sisters had to be found; Lamon and Lorene

and baby brother Edward too, oh so hopeless it did seem.

Something seemed wrong with that ole’ Tennessee law.

Records sealed on adoptees had to be changed they saw.

So to Senators, lawyers, and newspapers Gladys did write,

She worked so hard on this, to see it was such a sight.

Till one day in June of ‘83, the law was changed for 30 days,

The victory had been won, oh she had tried so many ways.

Sister Lorene was at her office busily working up a steam.

When a call came thru, a sister was searching for her it did seem.

Lorene had been waiting all her life to get this one phone call.

She was so very happy - because her family was her all in all.

To think at last she would get to see her long lost family,

Was all she could handle as she drove home filled with glee.

Grandad died, mom died, brothers and sisters wed;

grandchildren born; lives torn; but life went on they said.

So many long years had been lost to this family of mine

that reminiscing together gave feelings so sublime

But now away with them feeling so blue.

Why they had some making up of all those years to do.

Years and years of tears, torn lives and of sadness

turned into tears of joy, remembrances and gladness

All five children have quite a tale to tell

how God brought them thru all these many years so well.

They look with joy on the few years that remain,

of seeing each other a few times more is their wish to attain.

Tho they live quite a few miles apart which is sad,

they love each other, so this makes them all glad.

Brother Willard lives in KY, Sister Gladys in Tennessee;

Gladys found mom & Willard in ‘52,  all happy as could be.

All five of the children are now doing well it seems,

since that day back in ‘41 that damaged all their dreams.

Lorene wanted so much to see her mom she had loved so well.

She had so many memories, it seemed her heart would swell,

But twas not to be, you see, or she wouldn't be telling this tale .

You see her mom had died and crossed that great divide.

So time will just wait for the happy reunion on heaven's side.

And as Lorene writes this story, her life is now so blest.

because having lived this story, she now has peace and rest.
