Robert "Bob" was a farmer and a Justice of Peace in Clay Co.,TN. Court records refer to him as Robert Pedigo but he signed as Robert Petigo. He was born 16 Sept 1824 in Jackson Co., TN.; died 9 Jan 1909; in Clay Co., TN., : married (1) 11 Jan 1841 Elizabeth Vinson, born 20 Apr 1825 in Jackson Co., TN. the daughter of Jesse and Martha York Vinson; died 6 Jan 1900 in Clay Co., TN.; & (2) 5 May 1901 Ann Flippin, by whom he had no children.
Trace Creek Church of Christ was formed at Hermitage Springs. Elders were Meredith York, Jesse Vinson & Robert Pedigo, "who were ordained to the work with prayer & the laying on of hands of the Presbytery" Robert Pedigo, deacon (Which Robert was this, son of Wm or Robert IV?) William & Sarah were members. Note says Sarah died 20 Oct 1841. May 1, 1852 Meredith York & Robert Pedigo were Elders. Aug 1867 mentions Robert Pedigo, Sr (prob IV) June10 1879 Anderson (Jesse) was among those chosen to be "regularly put into the Eldership or Bishop's Office with fasting, prayer & the laying on of hands of the Presbytery." Buried at Hermitage Cemetery, about 100 yards north of Highway 52 just east of the sharp curve, Hermitage Springs, Clay Co., TN.

Letter from Reba Parkhurst Jones (Celina Elizabeth Pedigo Parkhurst Jones-Jesse Pedigo) telling what her mother told her - "She told how Robert's 2nd wife Ann Flippin took Elizabeth's quilts & used them as rugs - walked on them - Robert became sick & was in bed - Ann got down on her knees beside the bed & prayed to God for him to die - "Please take him Lord", Mama said it scared him to death - he sent for Jesse & Buck to come get him - he told them he was afraid she might try to help God get the job done - Mama said he never did go back to her - he stayed with Jesse & Buck - two of his sons." 7-1 Jesse Anderson Pedigo, b 9 Aug 1842 in Jackson Co., TN., d 1 June 1911 of typhoid fever in Clay Co., TN., bur Biles Ceme in Clay Co., TN; md 16 Dec 1872 in Clay Co., TN., Catherine Frances Wood, b 7 Nov 1844 in Jackson Co., TN., the daughter of William Harvey & Cynthia Guisira Reeves Wood, d 13 or 15 May 1911 of typhoid fever. Catherine was very frail & often bed-ridden. When she was able to work, she worked very hard and at times over-worked and became ill.
Even though his parents were first cousins, Jesse highly disapproved of marriage between cousins. Kept some family records. Jesse was a farmer, surveyor, & J. P. of Clay Co., TN. and a school teacher. He was in the Civil War from 12 Jan 1864 till 3 May 1865 and contacted lung disease. He was also a diabetic.He was in the Union Army, Sgt., Co. F., 1st Regt., Tenn Mtd Inf. He was 5' 11", dark skin & eyes,and hot tempered. He had scars on left thigh & toe on left foot where he had been cut with an ax. He resided in Spivey (now Hermitage Springs), Clay Co., TN. Had lung disease, drew pension. Died of typhoid a few days after Catherine died. Dates on the death records have been reversed. Jesse was also ill when Catherine died. Realizing that they must have some contagious disease, Jesse sent his grandson, Faulby, away. Faulby was the son of Betty.

."On Jesse A. & Catherine's death certif.-they did not die on the same day ' Mama told me over & over how they died - she died May 13, 1911 He died June 1, 1911. Mama lived with them - she said her Mom went to the chicken house & worked & worked trying to get a bunch of young chickens to go on roost poles - she came in the house about dark - went to bed & never got up anymore - I don't know if Mama ever said how long she lived afterward - but after she died - Mama told how sad & sick her dad was - He told Mama to get the baby (Faulby) out of the house that he might have a disease that the baby could get" Jesse & Catherine are buried at the Biles Cemetery, 2 miles nw of Hermitage Springs, Clay Co., TN. Both are buried in Smith Chapel Ceme in Clay Co. He md (2) Doritha White, b 23 June 1878; d 31 Dec 1957; buried in Bethany Ceme in Red Boiling Springs, Tn. John did not talk much about his father but seemed very close to his Uncle Buck (Wm Newton Pedigo) As a small boy he was contracted out as a farm hand. At one place he ate the apples that had been stored in the attic where he slept because he was so hungry. The people were kind but just didn't realize he was not getting enough to eat. He had an inquiring mind. He said "I am not a scholar. I haven'thad an education." He would invite any passer-by in to visit, often for hours. When Mary Ann complained about him wasting time he would say that was how he learned about things.
