Statement by Joanne Drake, Reagan Chief of Staff, June 5, 2004
    "Ronald Wilson Reagan, 40th President of the United States, died this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. PDT at his home in Los Angeles, California.  Born February 6, 1911, he was 93 years old.  His wife of 52 years, Nancy Davis Reagan, his son, Ronald Prescott Reagan and his youngest daughter, Patti Davis, were at his bedside when he passed away from pneumonia, as a complication of Alzheimer’s.  He is also survived by his son, Michael Reagan, who spent Friday with his father.  President Reagan’s oldest daughter, Maureen, died in 2001 from cancer."

    They have received thousands of messages via telephone, fax, e-mail and through the special remembrances that have been placed here, (Kingsley & Gates Funeral Home), near the Reagan Residence in Bel Air, at the Reagan Library, at Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois, at the Birthplace in Tampico, Illinois and the President’s Boyhood home in Dixon, Illinois.  As you can understand, the family is in deep mourning over the loss of a husband, a father, a grandfather, and their hero."

    President Ronald Reagan lies in repose at the Regan Presidential Library while over 100,000 line up at nearby Moorpark College to board busses to be transported up to the Library and view the President's casket.  Some waited in line up to 10 hours and all night long.  Shortly after noon, former California Lt. Governor Ed Reinecke and his wife, Jean, became the first members of the public to view Reagan's casket.  Reinecke served for more than 5 years under Reagan when he was Governor.
