Psalm 54:2
"Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth."
Prayer is a powerful tool, it can calm us in times of turmoil,
it can comfort us in times of trouble. It soothes our soul
as we talk to God and gives us hope as we communicate our wishes
to Him. But does He answer all of our prayers?
God tells us that when we pray He WILL answer.
Jeremiah 33:3
"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee
great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."
God's answer to prayer may be yes, may be no, or may be
wait. God's delays are not denials. We do not know why
He sometimes delays the answer and at other times answers before
we even call upon Him.
Sometimes the answer involves another person. Many have
prayed for years for the salvation of a friend or relative and
yet it seems their prayers are going unanswered. We are
instructed to Pray without ceasing, so never give up
until the answer comes.
Aside from making sure our prayers are not hindered (see previous
lesson), there are two requirements for answers to prayer:
John 15:7
"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you,
ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."
Colossians 3:16,17
- Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
- And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of
the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."
