What is Prayer?

Psalm 54:2
"Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth."

Prayer is the bridge between Heaven and Earth

Prayer is as old as man, as instinctive as breathing. It is practiced in some form by people of all faiths. It springs from the heart with a need.

Prayer is spiritual communication between you and God. It is your acknowledgement of Him which brings you into a close fellowship with Him by admitting your need for and utter dependence on Him. When you pray, you have the opportunity to enjoy intimacy with God.

Prayer is spending time with God as you express your heart to Him. It is not a one way activity. When we speak to God in prayer, He listens. God speaks to our hearts and we listen to that still small voice.

Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know that I am God."

Prayer is asking and receiving by making our requests known to God in faith.

Matthew 21:22
"Whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."

Prayer is seeking and finding, searching with all your heart.

When you don't know the will of God regarding a need, seek His will in prayer until you find it.

Jeremiah 29:13
"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

Prayer is knocking and opening

When you know the will of God and yet you find a closed door, knock and keep knocking until God opens the door. It is prayer with mountain moving faith. Knocking prayer persevers until the impossible becomes possible. This is miracle working prayer.

Matthew 17:19-20
  1. "Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
  2. And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."

Prayer is the way to renewal and spiritual life.
Prayer is strength, refreshment, and joy.
Prayer is aliveness to God.
