My Magical Christmas Of 1945
Rev. Karen Power

It was the year 1945. Because of the death of my momma in 1943 and then on Christmas Day 1944 the death of my dear paternal grandpa, We girls,Linda,Karen, and Kay had been separated and sent to live with three different sets of aunts and uncles. Back then the world war 11 was on and money was not easy to come by. My dad was in the army. We all congregated at "my house" (actually the house of my Mommas brother and his wife in Claude Texas).
Outside there was a beautiful "White Christmas."

My sisters has come up from their "homes" Linda's in Wellington Texas, and Kay's in Shamrock Texas. We were so glad to see one another!
It was dark, and someone, I don't remember who, stood at the big double sliding doors leading into
the living room, where there was a beautiful Christmas tree, with angel hair and "the works" decorating it. We couldn't go in there. There was excitement in the air.

Suddenly we heard a landing on the roof of the house. and a big booming voice saying whoa Donner Whoa dixen, Whoa! Bells were tinkling, and we heard the heavy sleigh as it landed on the roof. Then we heard Santa's footsteps!...Our hearts were in our mouths we were so excited.
All of a sudden we heard Santa in the living room,
saying HO! HO! HO! and we screamed in glee! Then we heard "Santa" back on the roof and the bells on the sleigh was jingling and then Santa said On Donner On Blitzen, etc. They were off in the sky we were told to deliver other children's gifts.

Suddenly we someone opened those massive sliding doors and there under the Tree was staring right at me a red headed bride doll!
It was mine....

I am sure I got other things that year for all of my Momma's people were there, but I can't remember. That bride doll was the most beautiful doll I have ever seen in my life.

Then after a meal, we went outside. It was so pretty, with the snow gleaming with white twinkles from the moonlight. My uncles and the big boy cousins set of fireworks...The sight to me and my sisters were magical and beautiful. The snow reflected the multi colors of the fireworks as they blasted into the air. I will always remember that wonderful Christmas in Claude Texas where our Mommas family worked so hard and lovingly to give us girls a beautiful magical Chistmas. for the two Christmases before we has suffered the losses of our Momma, and then the next year, our beloved grandpa.

But The Christmas of 1945 was a Wonderful Joyous Christmas, because of the love and the care of family. So if you have a small child or two, Or grandchildren, You too can make a magical Christmas for them this year. It will be worth all the trouble to those little children who are grieving too. It will always be remembered as their Christmas Of 2002.
Or Children grieve, and need help getting through the holidays too. I know, I was there once as a child. I was almost six years old in 1945, my sisters were 9 and two years 9 month.
God Bless,
NannyKaren
