It was just painted with cheap acrylic craft paints as a temporary Christmas decoration.  This is the way it looks after two years. I did it to test the paint and was amazed that it lasted so well.  I'll eventually take it off, and paint something else, when I get inspired. ;-)

There is a touching true story about this simple Christmas door decoration. I painted it on a Sunday evening in December 2002 to decorate for Christmas. The following morning, my neighbor across the street opened her front door and saw it for the first time. She was grieving the loss of a friend who had just committed suicide a few days before. The light was shining through the glass and almost blinded her in the morning light.  She never expected to see the Madonna and Christ child shine across the street to her. It really shocked her. She is Catholic and was so surprised and yet comforted by the painting.  She said it  came at a perfect time to let her know that God was looking after her and comforting her during her grief.  So I have hesitated to take it down, because of her. I only meant to keep it for Christmas, but many have enjoyed it when they come by.

This was the forerunner of my mural work.  My husband was very skeptical of me painting any murals on the wall, but he did allow me to paint some simple clouds. He liked it so much, that he let me go ahead and paint a real mural in the bedroom, which is the tropical island theme, you may have seen already.
