Taste of Chicago Concert Pictures

Randy Travis, Ty Herndon,
Michael McDonald, and The Buckinghams
at Taste of Chicago, 2000

Every year for the past 20 years, Chicago has had a huge, week-long picnic called 'Taste of Chicago' which seems to get better every year. Besides having booths set up selling food from many of the city area's restaurants, they have free concerts each day. This year I went to the Randy Travis/Ty Herndon concert and the Michael McDonald/Buckinghams concert. Below are a few of the pictures I took.

Buckinghams

The Buckinghams were the opening act for Michael McDonald. Only two of the members are from the original group, the singer and the guitarist on the right. They sounded pretty good, and they spent time afterwards meeting with fans and signing autographs.

Michael McDonald. Michael McDonald and Jeff Bridges.

Not only did Michael McDonald sound good, especially in 'What A Fool Believes' and 'Takin It To The Streets,' but he had a special guest with him - Jeff Bridges. Not only does Jeff act (I remember him best as Flynn and Clue in the movie Tron.), but he plays guitar and writes songs, too, and is promoting his new CD.

Ty Herndon Ty Herndon

Ty Herndon opened for Randy Travis. In his tight leather pants, he did a particularly steamy rendition of his hit song, 'Steam.'

Randy Travis

Randy Travis always sounds good, in my opinion. At this concert, he sang so many good ones, there's no way I could begin to list them all. 'The Hole' and 'On The Other Hand' come to mind the quickest. Some of his band members have been with him for as much as 14 years.

His band members include (generally from left to right) Steve Hinson on steel guitar, Rick Wayne "L.D." Money on electric lead guitar, Herb Shucher on the drums, David Johnson on the fiddle, Lance Dary and Robb Houston on acoustic guitar and vocals, Paul Fulbright on bass guitar and vocals, and Drew Sexton on keyboards and vocals.

If you are wondering who the ladies are in the middle of the page, they are Randy's wife, Lib, and a friend of hers, Vicki, hidden away in the wings.

Of course, the food is also a special part of the Taste. Unfortunately, I was too busy eating to get any pictures of it. This year, I ate peach cobbler from Mama's House, 3451 West Harrison Street, fudge from Aunt Diana's Candy Makers, 835 North Michigan Avenue, triple chocolate ice cream from Celebration Ice Cream, 282 Golf Mill Center in Niles, fish and chips from Kitty O'Shea's, 720 South Michigan Avenue, fried dough from Greco's, 8850 South Archer Avenue in Willow Springs, deep dish pizza from Bacino's Pizza, 2204 North Lincoln Avenue, and cheese crepes with raspberry sauce from Kasia's Deli, 2101 West Chicago Avenue.

If you ever get a chance to go to the Taste, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
