Richard J. Daley Center - Haunted House

The haunted house was set up in the Richard J. Daley Center plaza as usual, near the Picasso. The fountain was dyed orange, there were spooky performances held each noon hour, and the Farmer's Market added a certain charm to the annual autumn festival.

My Own Pumpkin Carving

Using a tool kit and patterns from Walgreens, I carved three designs in this jack-o-lantern. The center design is called The Tri Boo Council. The other two, I believe, are self-explanatory. To make it glow, I used a battery-operated light made especially for jack-o-lanterns.

The Office Contest

For the third year in a row, our office building held a pumpkin carving contest. Each office was given a pumpkin to carve. The attorney pictured above was given the task of carving the pumpkin for our office. Here she is holding her completed creation, which was given the title of Scary Night Fever.

On the left, you see a close-up of the inside of Carol's creation - skeletons dancing on a disco floor. On the right is a close-up of the monkey disc jockey on top. A CD player playing disco tunes was placed behind the pumpkin to complete the entry.

Third Place Winner
Scary Night Fever

Here is our office's entry on display in the building lobby. Each office was given a ballot and an opportunity to select their favorite 3 entries. When the ballots were counted, our entry won the third place prize!!!

Second Place Winner
Shrek's Castle

This pumpkin castle with Shrek characters won the second place prize.

First Place Winner
Firemans Fund

This elaborate display, which seemed more like an ad for Firemans Fund than a contest entry, won the first place prize.
