"God is Spirit" (John 4:24). "Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (2 Corinthians 3:17). In the first part of this verse we find the same equivalence of the Lord and the Spirit as is found in John 1:1 relating to the Word and God: "the Word was with God, and the Word was God". The second statement, however, "the Spirit of the Lord," shows that, as in the case of the Word and God, there is also a distinction.

The Holy Spirit is personal. Christ refers to the coming Spirit as a Counsellor or Helper. "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you" (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit has characteristics of a person. He has a mind. We read of "the mind of the Spirit" in Romans 8:27. He has a will (1 Corinthians 12:11). He can speak (1 Timothy 4:1). He refers to himself as 'Me' and 'I' in Acts 13:2. (See also John 15:26; Romans 8:26; 1 Corinthians 2:10-13.)

There is one Spirit. There is one body and one Spirit" (Ephesians 4:4). "For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father" (Ephesians 2:18). "For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body - whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free - and have all been made to drink into one Spirit" (1 Corinthians 12:13). The Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ are the same Spirit. "But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His" (Romans 8:9).

The Holy Spirit is omnipresent. "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?" (Psalm 139:7).

The Holy Spirit is all-knowing. "Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counsellor has taught Him?" (Isaiah 40:13). "For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God" (1 Corinthians 2:10-11). These passages indicate that the Spirit knows all that God knows.

The Spirit is eternal. "How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" (Hebrews 9:14).

The Spirit is the truth. "And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth" (1 John 5:6). He is called "the Spirit of truth" in John 14:17.

The Spirit proceeds from the Father and is sent by God and Christ. "And now the Lord GOD and His Spirit have sent Me" (Isaiah 48:16). "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you" (John 14:26). "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me" (John 15:26).

From these passages we have learned that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one. The Holy Spirit is personal. There is one Spirit. HE is omnipresent. He is all-knowing. He is eternal. The Spirit is the truth. The Spirit proceeds from the Father and is sent by God and Christ.

HI Kids,

I wanted to talk to you about another important lesson for you to

learn in your life. I am going to be real honest with you here on this

website because I love you and I believe in how smart you are.

When God made you, He had a very special plan for your life and

its his job to let you know what that job is but he does it in a very

special way.

Remember on page one of our site I was telling you how Jesus

became a spirit like an angel, when He went to heaven, but that

when he wants to visit with us, he comes to us in that spirit and

us adults we call that spirit, The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit of God

is what teaches us how to live like Jesus wants us to live.

Have you even been just about ready to do something that you

know mom or dad has already told you is not allowed and just

about the time you thought about doing it again, you hear a little

voice inside your mind tell you not to do it cause mom and dad

already told you it was naughty. That little voice that you hear is

really The Holy Spirit reminding you that you cant do that.

Not to many people learn how to listen to The Holy Spirit but you

can because you know now what it is to hear Jesus' Holy Spirit

sounds like. The Holy Spirit will teach you many things in your

life but its your job to listen to Jesus when He speaks to you, just

like it is important that you listen to your mom and dad.

Your mom and dad want to keep you safe and they want you to

grow into a nice person that cares about people and that is why

they tell you that you cant do some things. They are trying to teach

you right from wrong. And so is Jesus.

One more thing you can think about to really know what The Holy

Spirit is, is that when you go outside and you see something that is

outside that is really pretty, like maybe how pretty the stars look up

in the sky or how pretty the butterflies are in the air and when you

look at those pretty things, it makes you feel really happy inside.

And when you go inside and go to sleep, you wake up the next day

and you remember that pretty thing you seen and you run outside

to see if it is still out there. And it is. Its still out there and it makes

you happy all over again.

Well The Holy Spirit is like that too. It is a like the most beautiful

thing you will ever know about your whole life and guess what else!

God's Holy Spirit will never leave you, It will be with you forever. It

might not be something you can see with your eyes but if you

remember the lesson you have learned here while you read this

lesson, it will be something that you learn to recognise.

And once you learn how to recognise The Holy Spirit and what it is

there for, you will never forget it. And the very next time that you

feel sad or lonely, you can close your eyes and imagine that The

Holy Spirit, which is a really beautiful thing from God is way down

deep inside you and that it will never leave you and then you will

start to feel better because you will know that you will never be

alone again.

When you say the prayer like what is on page one of this site and

you ask Jesus into your heart, You have the Holy Spirit as a gift

from God, right then. Isnt that an awesome gift for Jesus to give

you?

I hope the next time mom and dad or maybe your teachers at

school tell you to not do something, Remember that Jesus already

knows what they are going to say to you and He will use His Holy

Spirit to help you learn that lesson really well.

I Love you kids,

Tj Darnell
