 Holiness

The meaning of holiness in the bible is to be

wholly dedicated and devoted to God, distinct

and separate from the world's way of living,

committed to right living and purity. Holiness

is the absents of sin, evil, and wrongdoing. It

is being spotlessly free from blemish. But holiness

is much more than the absents of sin. It is the

presence of righteousness,

(righteousness means right living),

purity, and godliness. When we become Christians,

God makes us holy by forgiving our sins. He looks at us

as though we had never sinned, while he sees us as holy, we

have not perfected holiness, we must still strive each day to

be more like Jesus, more holy. Only when we get to heaven

will we be completely holy.

Lets look in "God's word" to see what it

means, when we are told to be holy and

to live a holy life.

1st Corinthians 1:2

We are writing to the church of God in Corinth,

you who have been called by God to be his own

holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ

Jesus, just as he did for all Christians everywhere, ,

whoever calls upon the name of Jesus Christ our

Lord and theirs.

1st Corinthians 6:9-11

Don't you know that those who do wrong will have no

share in the kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who

indulge in sexual sins, who are idol worshipers, adulterers,

male prostitutes, homosexuals, thieves, greedy people, drunkards,

abusers, and swindlers. None of these will have a

share in the kingdom of God. There was a time, when some

of you were just like that, but now your sins have been washed

away, and you have been set apart for God. You have been

made right with God because of what the Lord Jesus

Christ, and the Spirit of our God have done for you.

1st Corinthians 1:30

God alone, made it possible for you to be in Christ

Jesus. For our benefit, God made Christ to be wisdom

itself. He is the one who made us acceptable to God. He made us

pure and holy, and he gave himself to purchase our freedom.

Ephesians 1;4

Long ago, even before he made the world, God loved us and

chose us in Christ to be holy, and without fault in his eyes.

John 17:17

Make them pure and holy by teaching them

your words of truth.

2nd Corinthians 7:1

Because we have these promises, dear friends,

let us keep ourselves from everything that

can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward

complete purity because we fear God.

Romans 12;1-2

Dear Christians friends, I plead with you to give your

bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice.

When you think of what he has done for you,

is this too much to ask? Don't copy the behaviors and

customs of this world, but let God

transform you into a new person by changing

the way you think. Then you will know what

God wants you to do, and you will

know how good and pleasing and perfect his

will really is.

Hebrews 10:12-14

Our High Priest offered himself to God as one

sacrifice for sins, good for all times. Then he sat

down at the place of highest honor at God's right hand

There he waits until his enemies are

humbled as a footstool under his feet. For by that one offering

he perfected forever all those whom he is making holy.

As we see in these scriptures, that all who believe

in Jesus Christ are made holy, we are brought into a

state of holiness not by what we do, but by

what Jesus did for us, cleansing us from

sin though his forgiveness, To be holy means that

God looks at us as though we had never sinned.

We grow holy by working hard to keep sin

out of our lives. We must realize on our own

we can't live a holy life for we are sinful people,

but we give our bodies to God as an offering,

a living sacrifice to him. He will help us to become

holy. Holiness here on earth is not perfection,

it is striving for purity. However God promises that

those who are believers will one day, in heaven,

be perfect I don't know about you

my sisters or brothers but to "Me"

that will be a of rejoicing, Praise God!!

We have learned what it means to be holy and

a holy life. Lets see what Gods word say's

about doing holy works though unholy people.

Exodus 28:1-2

Your brother Aaron, and his sons, Nadab, Abihu

Eleazar, and Ithamar, will be set apart from the

common people. They will be my priests and

will minister to me. Make special clothing

for Aaron to show his separation to God,

beautiful garments that will bring dignity

to his work.

We know from reading the word of God, that

he knows what we will do in the future, so he

already knew that these men were going to sin,

when he ordered them to be set apart to become

his ministers. In the same way, he will use us if we

consecrate ourselves to his service and ask him to

cleanse us.

Levitcus19:2

Say this to the entire community of Israel: You

must be holy because I, the Lord, your God, am

holy.

1st Peter 1:15

But now you must be holy in everything you

do, just as God (who chose you to be his children)

is holy.

We as Gods children can be nothing less than

holy. There should never come a time in our

lives, that we are not striving to be holy. If we

desire to please God, that must included holiness.

Isaiah 6:3

In a great chorus they sing, "Holy, holy, holy

Is the Lord Almighty! The whole earth is

Filled with his glory! "

Isaiah 63:15-16

Lord look down from heaven and see us from

your holy, glorious home. Where is the passion

and the might you used to show on our behalf?

Where are your mercy and compassion now?

surely you are still our Father! Even if Abraham

and Jacob would disown us, Lord you would

still be our Father. You are our redeemer from

ages past.

God who is a holy and glorious, live in heaven,

his home which is holy and glorious. To live there,

we must somehow rid our lives of sin and become

sanctified people. This is accomplished though

the great work that Christ did on the cross.

Acts 20:32

And now I entrust you to God and the word

of his grace, his message that is able to build

you up and give you an inheritance with all

those he has set apart for himself.

We as God's children have an eternal inheritance.

We must never forget, that we were bought with the

Redeeming Blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus

Christ, it cost him everything to give us this inheritance

Lord Jesus let us take an honest look at our walk with you.

Let us be willing to place our uncleanness and our

our unrighteousness on the alter of forgiveness, Lord

please let us desire to be holy and expectable to you.

Help us Lord, to be pleasing, and a sweet saver

to your nostrils, let our sacrifices be acceptable

in your sight. Thank you for loving us so.

Bless your Holy Name!!
