God's Answer To Stress

Some time life causes us to be like a rubber band

that is stretched so tight that it is at the breaking

point. The pressures of every day life build up, and

pulls us in all different directions, or pulls against

our sense of well being. We try to do to much work

with too little time, or too few resources stretches us

us beyond our capacity. Trying to live in today's

society with its many demands may put excessive

pressures on us. Trying to cope with financial

demands of life without adequate income is a

stretching experience. We seem to have more

difficulties in our relationships, between husbands

and wife's, parents and children, employer and

employees, too name a few. But I have good

new for us, we are going to see in God's word

that he can bring peace in the mist of stress.

Luke 22: 54

So they arrested Jesus and led him to the priest's

residence, and Peter was following far behind. The

guards lit a fire in the courtyard and sat around

it, and Peter joined them there. A servant girl

noticed him in the firelight and began staring at

him. Finally she said, "This man was one of Jesus

followers!" Peter denied it. "Woman," he said, "I

don't even know the man!"

We can all agree here, that Peter was under a

lot of stress, here is a man that was a disciples

of Jesus, earlier this same Peter had told Jesus

"Lord" I am ready to go with you to prison even

to death. But you see under stress, Peter became

afraid, and did what Jesus told him, that he

would denied him three times before the rooster

crowed. When you read all the scriptures here

we find that when he heard the rooster crow

he left the courtyard and cried bitterly.

Often stress is of our own doing. When we sin,

we bring the consequences of stress and the

Pain it may cause on ourselves.

 Exodus 16:3

"Oh, that we were back in Egypt," they moaned.

"It would have been better if the Lord had

killed us there! At least there we had plenty

to eat. But now you have brought us into this

desert to starve to death."

The Israelites didn't really want to go back

to Egypt, for after all they had been slaves

there. Like us when we are stressed, we forget

to trust God to bring us though, instead we

want a quick escape, and in most cases we

complain to each other about our problems.

Psalm 55:22

Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will

take care of you. He will not permit the Godly

to slip and fall.

Psalm 62:2

He alone is my rock and my salvation, my

fortress where I will never be shaken.

Psalm 86:7

I will call to you whenever troubles strikes,

And you will answer me.

John 16:33

I have told you all this so that you may

have peace in me. Here on earth you will

have many trials and sorrows. But take

heart, because I have overcome the world.

We see here, that the word tell us that God

never promised us a rose garden, on the contrary

he told us that we would have trials and troubles,

but he promises us that if we will call on his name,

he will be there to lift our stress and

burdens from our shoulders. This is the

only way we can deal with the pressure and

stresses of every day life.

Romans 5:3-4

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems

and trials, for we know that they are good for

us, they help us learn to endure. And endurance

develops strength of character in us, and character

strengthens our confident expectation of salvation.

James 1:2-4

Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes

your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For

when your faith is tested, your endurance is

has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when

your endurance is fully developed, you will be

strong in character and ready for anything.

Our true character is exposed when we are under

stress. When stress comes our way, we can allow it

to be a learning experience, and build our trust

in God, or fall to pieces and fall into Satan's trap.

It is our choice, we must remember God is more

concerned with our reactions than our actions. In

times of stress, our reactions let us know where

we really are in our walk with him.

Father God thank you for being there when we need

you. Thank you that even though we don't always

react as we should, you are always there. Help

us to remember that you didn't promise us a

rose garden, but you did promise not to give

us more than we can barer.

Amen and Amen
