Stubbornness

When we see a small child digging their

feet in, (so to speak) when told to do

something, or can't have something, we as

adults many times think it is cute. But

guess what, we find out that after awhile,

it isn't so cute anymore. I'm sure God feels

the same way about us. When we want

our own way, and refuse to listen to

instructions. Stubbornness comes out of

pride. We want our own way, and we think

our way is the only way, or at least we want

others to think that, so we refuse to give in.

Stubbornness is not a respector of others

thoughts or ideas. When we know what God

wants and still refuse to do it, we show our

rebellious nature against God. Stubbornness is

being unyielding, refusing to move. How many

times have you heard someone or maybe

even ourselves, make the statement that

" I've been this way all my life, and I'm

not about to change for anything or anyone."

Sometime we will shake our heads, and think

nothing more about it. This attitude is a

hardened resistance to others or to God himself.

The sad thing is that stubbornness keeps us

from doing what is best for us, and thus

in the end, we hurt ourselves more than

anyone else. There have been so many lives

destroyed, and so much heartache that

can be traced back to Stubbornness.

Exodus 8:19

"This is the finger of God!" the magicians

exclaimed to pharaoh's heart remained hard

and stubborn. He wouldn't listen to them, just

as the Lord has predicted.

Exodus 9:12

But the Lord made Pharaoh even more

Stubborn, and he refused to listen, just as

the Lord had predicted.

Matthew 17:17

Jesus replied, "you stubborn, faithless people!

How long must I be with you until you believe?

How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy

to me."

When we remain stubborn and refuse to see

God working, and not believing it is God is like

Pharaoh, and developing a habit of stubbornness

causing us to refuse to get to know God, and

if this causes God to give up on us, what

hope do we have then? When we, out of

our self-will and stubbornness resist God

and his ways, this is a rejection of God

himself. There is a fine line between

stubbornness and conviction. It behooves

us to be very careful to discern where

conviction end and stubbornness begins.

2nd Kings 17:14

But the Israelites would not listen. They were

as stubborn as their ancestors and refused to

believe in the Lord their God.

Joshua 14:7-8

I was forty years old when Moses, the

servant of the Lord, sent me from

Kadesh-barnea. To explore the land of

Canaan. I returned and gave a good

report. But my brothers who went with me

frightened the people and discouraged them

from entering the Promised Land.

Daniel 1:8

But Daniel made up his mind not to defile himself

by eating the food and wine given to them

by the king. He asked the chief officials for

permission to eat other things instead.

We see in the above scriptures that

Stubbornness is based on pride and rejecting

the will and word of God in our lives. What

Caleb and Daniel are exhibiting here is strong

convictions, basted on God promises though purity

and prayer, not on self-preservation but on

obedience of God. Have you found that there

seem to be more and more in the Christian

world today that is more interested in

self- preservation , than obedience?

Exodus 8:15

But when Pharaoh saw that the frogs were gone,

he hardened his heart. He refused to listen

to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord has

predicted.

Proverbs 13:10

Pride leads to arguments, those who take

advice are wise.

We can know that when we are being stubborn, it

is when we refuse to admit the truth even

when we are faced with the overwhelming

evidence. When we are rooted in pride

and not truth, but in stubbornness, we will

not, and some can not admit they are wrong

or guilty as the case may be. Satan has

been able to sell us on the idea, that as

we have said before, God will understand

and will over look our stubbornness and

pride. But I will say again "NO He Won't."

That goes against His Word.

Jonah 2:10

Then the ordered the fish to spit up

Jonah on the beach, and it did.

Mark 6:11

And if a village won't welcome you or

listen to you, shake off its dust from your

feet as you leave. It is a sign that

you have abandoned that village to its fate.

As we all know, it is very hard to deal with

Someone who is so stubborn that, no matter

what you do are say they won't budge.

Those of us who have children know what

I'm talking, well guess what! So does God.

And God knows how to deal with it, he

deals with us with patience and confrontation.

There comes a time when God recognizes,

regrettably we must leave people

to the consequences of their own stubbornness.

You and I know that it is easy to see

others faults, but we can't or won't see

faults in our own life. The Word tell us

to take the beam out of our own eye before

we take the speck out of our neighbors eyes.

In closing, Lord, let us look deep within

ourselves and allow you to reveal any

stubbornness, pride or anything that

is hindering our relationship with you

Lord. Lord let us be willing to admit

our sins as not just call them shortcomings, so that

we may Grow in our Christian walk and

to be an example to a lost

and dying world. Lord we give you all

the adoration that is due you.

Amen & Amen.
