Self-Esteem
Self -esteem is a word that we have
heard often in the last few year.
Just what does that word mean.
It seem that every time we turn
around no matter what a person
does good or bad they did it
because of their self-esteem., God
tells us that if think to highly
of ourselves we are full of pride,
but to think less of ourselves than
we ought is false humility, that
can be pride to, pride in our
supposed humility. There is a
happy medium, an honest
appraisal, in between is our
self worth, and that is
self-esteem. God message in
the Bible is simple, God values
us highly because he loves us
deeply. We must never think
we are sufficiency without God.
Our sufficiency is in the Lord.
Our value is tied to the value
God places on us. God is the
power within us so that makes
us people of great value indeed.
Because of God's power within
Us, we are capable of doing
Far more than most of us have
ever dreamed Or even dared to
dream If we will allow God to
work through us to accomplish
great thing for him.
Genesis 1:26-27
Then God said , "Let us make
People " in our image, to be
like ourselves. They will be
masters over all life, the fish
in the sea, the birds in the sky,
and all the livestock, wild
animals, and small animals.
So God created people in his own
image: God patterned them
after himself: male and female
he created them.
Psalm 8:3-8
When I look at the sky and see
the work of your fingers, the
moon and the stars you have
set in place. What are mortals
that you should care for us?
for you made us only a little
lower than God, and you
crowned us with glory and
honor. You put us in charge
of everything you made , giving
us authority over all things, the
sheep and the cattle and all
the wild animals, the birds in
the sky he fish in the sea, and
every-thing that swims in the
ocean currents.
Psalms 139:13-16
You made all the delicate, inner
parts of my body and knit me
together in my mother's womb.
Thank you for making so
wonderfully complex! Your
workmanship is marvelous, and
how well I know it. You watched
me as I was being formed in utter
seclusion, as I was woven together
in the dark of the womb. You
saw me before I was born. Every-
day of my life was recorded in
your book. Every moment was
laid out before a single day had
passed. How precious are your
thoughts about me, O God! They
are innumerable.
Jeremiah 1:5
I knew you before I formed you
in your mother's womb. Before
you were born I set you apart
and appointed you as my
spokesman to the world.
As we see here God is telling us
how important we are to Him.
He is letting us know that ,He
made us in His image and that
is one reason we can know how
much we are valued by God.
No other creature on earth is
made in the image of God,
another reason for our value
to God is that, he placed people
over all the creatures on the
earth. God made us with lots
of great skills, He made us
with loving care. He showed us
how much He valued us by the
way He made us. Just think He
is the almighty, yet He thinks
wonderful thoughts about us
all the time. He isn't like we
are, He looks on the inside of
us an sees our worth and value.
Now if we are still not convinced
Let look at some more of God's word
and see what more he has to say
about us.
Psalm 139:1-3
O Lord, you have examined my
heart and know everything
about me. You know my ever
thought when far away. You
chart the path ahead of me
and tell me where to stop and
rest. Every moment you know
where I am. You know what
I am going to say even before
I say it, Lord. You both precede
and follow me. Such knowledge
is too wonderful for me, too
great for me to know!
Matthew 10:29-31
Not even a sparrow, worth only
half a penny, can fall to the
ground without your Father
knowing it. And the very hair
on your head are all numbered.
So don't be afraid; you are
more valuable to him than a
whole flock of sparrows.
Isn't it wonderful God tell us in
His word, that he values and
loves us so much that He watches
over us no matter were we are or
what we are doing. This is so
wonderful. In fact if we are
honest with ourselves it is hard
for us to comprehend fully, but
when we can finally believe that
we are special to Him, that He
care about every thing we do
because He loves us so very much,
then our self-esteem gets a great
boost in the direction God
intended for us.
1st Corinthians 6:19-20
Don't you know that your body
is the temple of the Holy Spirit,
who lives in you and was given
to you by God. You do not belong
to yourself for God bought you
with a high price. So you must
honor God with your body.
Galatians 3:26
So you are all children of God
through faith in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 4:7
Now you are no longer a slave
but God's own children. And
since you are his child, every-
thing he has belongs to you.
Matthew 28:20
Teach these new disciples to
Obey all the commands I have
given you. And be sure of this,
I am with you always, even to
the ends of the age.
God values us so much that He
even allows our bodies to become
the temple in which He lives. We
should all pause and remember
that God being God ,the Almighty
doesn't have to live in us. He could
live anywhere ,But by choosing to
live in us, He has declared us His
temple, His dwelling place. I don't
know about you, but ever time I
think on this I am in awe. He tell
us that He values us as His child,
and He promises us that he will
always be with us. The question
that come to mind here is that
if God did not value us why would
He want to be with us until the end
Of the age. We should never
question again if we are really
important to God.
Roman 12:3
As God's messenger, I give each
Of you this warning; Be honest in
your estimate of yourselves,
measuring your value by how
much faith God has given you.
1st Peter 4:10
God has given gifts to each to
from his great variety of
spiritual gifts. Manage them
well so that God's generosity
can flow though you.
As we read the above scriptures
We can see that the only way we
Can have a healthy self-esteem , is
an honest approval of ourselves,
not to proud because of the gifts
and abilities God has given us,
yet nor being so self -effacing that
we don't use our gifts and abilities
to our full potential. We have to be
willing to manage our gifts so well
that God can increase our value,
where He can work though us. As
we also have seen by reading
scripture, our self-esteem comes
only from God. If we don't have
a right relationship with God,
there is no way that we can have
a good self-esteem, we can't talk
one up, we can't buy it , we can't
work it up, our self-esteem comes with
being rooted and grounded in the
Lord Jesus Christ.
Lord I come to you in the name of
Jesus our Lord I thank you for your
Word. I thank you Lord for loving
us so mush that chose us to be the
temple to live in. Let us remember
that our value and worth come with
having a right standing with you
That we neither under or over
estimate our self worth and our
abilities. Lord help us to be
what you want us to be in you ,no
more or no less Lord. Lord forgive
us for our sins of omission as well
as commission. Let us remember
that in you we are everything, but
with out you we are nothing.
