The Essence of Prayer

As we read and study the bible we fine the

The word prayer on nearly every page. We

can know by this that prayer is the very

essence of a faith relationship with the

living God. If we are ask if this statement

is true ,I am sure all or at least most

of us would say "of course it's true."

The most universally practiced, yet

the least understood of our human

experiences, prayer Is one of our

greatest mysteries and yet all

prayer is ,is the way we communicate

with God. Prayer is supposed to be a

two way conversation, but how often

are we guilty of doing all the talking

then hanging up without listening

to what God has to say. We act with

God like we do with each other in

many cases, never taking time to

listen to what someone has to say.

If we as humans get frustrated when

We can't get a word in edge wises.

How God must feel, we give

Him a list of needs and wants and

then we don't seem to have time

For Him to talk to us .No wonder

God call us His children, in most

cases we act like little children

but praise God !He loves us warts

and all. There is no set way or place,

to pray, we can kneel, stand, walk.

shout, whisper and ect. The important

thing is that we pray and give God

a chance to speak to us. We have

come to God in child like faith

believing that He hears ,cares, and

is able to act in our behalf. In this

lesson , we are going to learn just

what the Word says prayer is, and

is not.

2nd.Chronicles 7:14

Then if my people who are called by

my name will humble themselves and

and seek my face and turn from their

wicked ways. I will hear from heaven

and heal their lands.

We see here that prayer is nothing more

than an act of humble worship in

which we seek God with all of our hearts.

The key words here is to humble and to

Seek God with our whole heart, nothing

less than this will reach the heart of God.

We may fool our fellow Christians brothers

And sisters, but we can't fool God, but

because he loves us so, he is very

patient with us. Praise God!

Psalm 38: 15-18

For I am waiting for you, O Lord .You

must answer for me, O Lord my God.

I prayed, "Don't let my enemies gloat

over me or rejoice at my downfall."

I am on the verge of collapse, facing

constant pain. But I confess my sins,

I am deeply sorry for what I have

done.

1st.John 1:9

But if we confess our sin, to him, he

Is faithful and just to forgive us

and to cleanse us from every wrong.

When we come to the Lord in prayer

it is important that we begin with

a confession of sin. We can say well I

haven't sinned, but the word says that

we all sin and fall short of the glory

of God, that means you and me. There

are sins of omission & commissions.

When we confess ,it cleanse us . It

allow us to be able to enter the

Holy of Holies.

2st.Samuel 5:17-19

When the Philistines heard that David

had been anointed king of Israel,

they mobilized all their forces to

capture him. But David was told

they were coming and went into

the stronghold. The Philistines

arrived and spread out across the

valley of Raphaim. So David asked

the Lord, "Should I go out to fight

the Philistines? Will you hand them

over to me?" The Lord replied, "Yes

go ahead, I will certainly give

the victory."

As we see prayer is asking God for

guidance and then waiting for

His direction and leading. The

essences of prayer is just talking,

and seeking answers for our lives .

Mark 1:35

The next morning Jesus awoke long

before daybreak and went out alone

into the wilderness to pray.

Prayer is an expression of an intimate

relationship with our heavenly Father,

who makes his own love and resources

available to us. It is though prayer

that we give praises ,love and

adoration to our Father God. Prayer

is not the difficult exercise, that

we have a tendency to make it out

to be . pray is just sharing our needs,

cares , and desires with a loved one

knowing that He has our best interest at

heart.

Nehemiah 1:7

When I heard this, I sat down and wept.

In fact, for days I mourned, fasted, and

prayed to the God of heaven. Then I said

"O Lord, God of heaven, the great and

awesome God who keeps his covenant of

unfailing love with those who love him

and obey his commands. Listen to my

prayer! Look down and see me praying

night and day for your people Israel.

I confess that we have sinned against

You. Yes even my own family and I

Have sinned! we have sinned

terribly by not obeying the commands,

laws, and regulations that you gave

us though your servant Moses.

Matthew 6:5-8

And now about prayer. When you pray,

don't be like the hypocrites who love to

pray publicly on street corners and in the

synagogues where everyone can se them.

I assure you that is all the reward they

will ever get. But when you pray go away

by yourself, shut the door behind you,

and pray to your Father secretly. Then

your Father, who knows all you secrets

will reward you. When you Pray don't

babble on and on as people of other

religions do. They think their prayers

are answered by repeating their words

again and again. Don't be like them,

because your Father knows exactly

what you need even before you ask

him.

Every where in the Bible we see that in

order to have effective prayer it includes

elements of adoration , confession,

and commitment, as well as request.

Our prayer life in some ways can be

compared to marriage , it is only

as good as you make it. You can't

ignore either your marriage or your

prayer life and expect to have an

intimate relationship with your mate

or with God. Jesus taught his disciples

this. He taught it is a daily dependency

for our daily needs, commitment to

obedience, and forgiveness of sin. We

can not, and we must not, take obedience

and forgiveness of ours sins lightly, it is

a very serious aspect to our prayer life.

Luke 18:1-8

One day Jesus told his disciples a story

to illustrate their need for constant

prayer and to show them that they

must never give up. "There was a judge

in a certain city," he said, "who was a

godless man with great contempt for

everyone. A widow of that city came to

him repeatedly, appealing for justice

against someone who had harmed her.

The judge ignored her for a while, but

eventually she wore him out. I fear

neither God nor man, he said to

himself but this woman is driving

me crazy. I'm going to see that she

get justice, because she is wearing

me out her constant request!" Then

the Lord said, "Lean a lesson from

this evil judge. Even he rendered a

just decision in the end, so don't

you think God will surely give

justice, to his chosen people who

plead with him day and night? Will

he keep putting them off? But I when

I the Son of Man, return, how many

will I find who have faith?"

Nehemiah 2-4

The king ask, "Well how can I help you?"

With a prayer to the God of heaven, I

replied, "If it please Your Majesty and

if you are pleased with me, your servant,

send me to Judah to rebuild the city

where my ancestors are buried."

As we see in the above scriptures prayer

Is not a one time thing it is to be

constant and persistent. We can't just

pray once and then take to attitude that

well I prayed and God know, so why should

I ask him again, granted there are time

that we pray once and then trust God

for the answer, but in most cases it takes

consistence and persistence. Prayer can

also be spontaneous, By that it means that

all of a sudden you feel moved on by the

Holy Spirit to pray where ever you are

for something or someone.

Isaiah 1:16-20

"Come now, let us argue this out," says

the Lord. "No matter how deep the stain

of your sins, I can remove it. I can make

you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even

if you are stained as red as crimson. I can

make you as white as wool. If you will only

obey me and let me help you, then you will

have plenty to eat. But if you keep turning

away and refusing to listen, you will be

destroyed by your enemies. I. The Lord,

have spoken!"

Philippians 4:6-7

Don't worry about anything, instead, pray

about everything. Tell God what you need,

and think him for all he has done. If you

do this, you will experience God's peace,

which is far more wonderful than the

human mind can understand. His peace

will guard your hearts and minds as you

live in Christ Jesus.

As we see here prayer is just talking

to, God our Father in heaven. The

Bible states over and over that we

must begin our prayers with

confession, that any sin has to be put

under the blood of Jesus, He invites

us to bring all our needs ,not just some

but ALL to Him in prayer. There is

nothing that we can't bring to God

and talk to Him about. If we say I don't

know how to pray, If that is so then we

don't know how to talk ,because as

we have just learned all pray is ,is

talking to God.

1st.John 5:14-15

And we can be confident that he will

listen to us when ever we ask him for

anything in line with his will. And if

we know he is listening when we make

our request, we can be sure that he will

give us what we ask for.

There is one thing we can count on if

we have submitted to God's will ,and

that is we can be confident of His

response to our earnest prayers.

If we leave the throne of grace

to soon ,we can miss out on God's

response to our prayer request.

That is why it is so important to

wait upon the Lord and not be

In to big of a hurry to leave His

presence.

2ndCorinthian 12:8-10

Three difference times I begged the Lord

eo take it away. Each time he said. "My

gracious favor is all you need. "My power

works best in your weakness." So now

I am glad to boast about my weakness."

So that the power of Christ may work

through me. Since I know it is all for

Christ's good, I am quite content with

Insults, hardships, persecutions, and

Calamities. For when I am weak, then

I am strong.

Somehow in this day and time we have

come to believe that if we pray and

believe hard enough that God owes it

to us to give us what we want, but

sometimes like Paul we find out that

God answers prayer by not giving us

what we ask for but something better.

You see we have to realize that God

knows the beginning and the end,

and because he loves us so he gives

us what he know will cause His power

to work through us, for our good and

for good of the kingdom of God.

 Exodus 14-15

The Lord said to Moses "Why are you

crying out to me? Tell the people to

get moving!"

We see here that  God is telling Moses

to tell the people to get a move on it .

When we pray, our prayers must be

accompanied by our willingness

to obey with our actions. We can't

ask God for something and not be

willing to do our part and expect

God to move . IF Moses hadn't

quit crying out for God to do

It, instead of obeying God and

stretched out his staff to part the

water, they would all have perished.

In some cases God say's to us I will

if you will, it's like if we pray

for a job, we can't pray and expect

God to bring the job to us, we have

to put feet to our prayers and go

find the job God has for us.

Lord thank you for teaching us that we

can come to you at anytime, anywhere.

Thank you Lord that you are never to

busy to listen to us, that you never

ignore us. help us Lord to be still

and listen to what you have to impart

to us. Thank you Lord for your love

and your promises. Let us not forget that

the essence of pray is being in your

presence's, that it bring joy, peace, hope

wisdom and cause our faith to rise

to new heights and renews our strength

to face each day with our head lifted

high knowing that in you and though

you "ALL thing are possible." As we come to

you in prayer let it be with a humble heart

in praise and adoration. In Jesus name

Amen & Amen
