Puppet Helps - Notes for the DirectorRequirementsCast: 2 roles: 1 person, 1 puppetCostume:Nothing special Technical:Depending upon your situation, you might want to mic the performers. Set:Just a puppet stage Notes:This was made specially for my church. Some of it won't apply or possibly make sense. Some things are easy fixes, like the names of people mentioned by the puppet. Let me give you some background on why other things are mentioned because it may help you rewrite it around your own churches unique attrbutes. First of all, our church had a baptismal tank so it is referenced. If you don't, then you can easily switch it to a nearby body of water, or just a bathtub. We had a background track that included the drums on our worship songs, but we were looking for a drum player. This is why the puppet showing interest in playing the drums was important to the live participant, and also explains the puppet's line about the little button. If you want to keep the basic idea of this line in, find something that misleads originally like, "I could help in the yard." "You want to be a garderner?" "I want to be a plant." For a few years, our choir seemed to have one pregnant person on it at a time. I quipped once that there was no way that they could convince any men to join to join the choir as long as the apparent rule that one member of the choir had to be pregnant remained. The men would all be terrified of drawing the short straw. I wrote it in. This would be easy enough to change around to an area in which you have several women pregnant. "I don't want to be on the (whatever) committee." or that type of thing. Or have fun with somebody or some group that you know can laugh at themselves like all the youth pastors are included in an area so the puppet says "No way I'm joining (whatever). You need to give up I.Q. points to do that." or "I'd need to become addicted to caffeine." It was designed to encourage the congregation to get involved. If you've got that in mind, you should be able to rewrite it to fit your specific requirements. Please feel free to chop this one up to meet your needs or just use it to help you write your own. As long as you have fun and be silly, any alterations will work. My thoughts:The only pieces I've ever written for a specific audience were puppet skits. I've lost my first skit which I actually performed. This was my second which I was never able to put on. I wanted our pastor to be the live guy (so I used his name David in the bit), and he wanted to do it, but he was just too busy at the time. I'm sorry if it just won't work for you. I hope you have fun reading it even if you can't use it. If I ever find my first, I'll include it. It was written more for the kids as it was introducing a new kids program at church. I am the pen.
